Actually, I think you posted in reverse. Tractors and class 8 straight are 10 years with the biggies. Smaller engines have shorter life spans, and therefore are 5-7. Part of this rule comes down to customer contracts as well. GM won't let trailers (and boxes I am assuming) that are over 10...

The only way that supply and demand will do it's work in the short term is at least half of you vanners sell your vehicles and go do something else. This "just say no" business won't do a thing.

Rail will work for the "ultra economy" freight. There is definitely a shortfall in capacity right now, and probably will not pick up as quickly as freight does. They need to move it somehow, so it's the railways that will get the overflow.

I can think of one company that figures city center to city center. They NEVER supply zip codes. At least not to partner carriers.

Fedex has a lot of inbound freight into that Cat plant in East Peoria. The outbound may not be near as much to offset the number of trucks standing by. A lot depends on daily truck count.
