    what are most loads

We tend to see everything from sound and lighting gear for concerts, cosmetics, machinery, off-lease photo copiers, fabric to skim oil out of the Gulf, and some stuff ya just ain't allowed to talk about. A lot of different people are using expedite for a lot of different reasons.

    The TruckLoad Expedite costumer

I deal with this all of the time. Even small loads that would fit a cargo van or straight being moved by a truckload broker with the promise of "exclusive use." I have a customer who started doing this instead of calling us. He said that it's just much more affordable to move three skids at...

There is a forum further down the forum main page that is called, "Ask the Recruiter." Many post within that section.

Are you under a load for the 4TH?

Ever heard a C-17 take off loaded? Talk about a screaming banshee. Back in the 90s, I lived in Irvine, CA, before Clinton closed El Toro MCAS. They weren't flying all that low by the time they came over the house, but the were still way louder than any Boeing 747. The engine pitch was always...

Flying J's Expediters showers for vans and sprinters

Individual owner ops will have some effect. If you can get your carriers to work together to assure these things continue, it will have greater effect, and then it will help all of expediting.

Less Than a Buck to laredo

You are in a cargo van, correct? The complaints were about straight truck rates. It would be the equivalent of a load offering $.55 per mile to your van or less.

Flying J's Expediters showers for vans and sprinters

I would love to see a thread where we can all report on great "mom and pop" truckstops we find along the way, and what makes them great. Some will allow you to negotiate a shower for a smaller fuel purchase, as needed with vans and sprinters. I stayed at one in Inman, SC. The cash price for...

The Thread You Can Use When You Need To

I'm surprised that this thread has stayed in the General Forum for so long, and not moved to the Soapbox or Loading Dock. Personally, I like it where it stands.

    why is a CDL required?

Watch out Moot. You used the "R" word. The word police will be coming to carry you off soon. http://www.expeditersonline.com/forum/layover-lounge/42112-why-do-people-pick-mentally-handicap.html Incidentally, re·tard·ed (rĭ-tärˈdĭd) adj. - 1. slowed or delayed in development or progress...

    why is a CDL required?

Some carriers require it because it helps them get a better insurance rate. Why? Because the CDL handbook helps you understand stuff that the normal handbook never covers. The hope is that it will make you a better driver.

Less Than a Buck to laredo

We do things with a per mile rate. I feel that if I'm offering a customer some kind of a discount, then that's on the carrier, not the truck owner. If that truck operator wants to offer me a bit of a discount to move him out of a spot, or to ensure that we get that load going 20 miles from...

I've had two vans thus far. One is now retired. Then a small straight daycab and a large straight. 4 total.

    UShip

In order to make LTLs work in a straight, you would need to put enough of them on there to build up your rate. I actually called on a couple LTL loads today, in an attempt to move one of our straights from a congested area. Baltimore to Jacksonville paid $450 on 757 miles. (3 skids, at 6400...

My apologies. What I am referring to is the "35%" you are worried about losing. If you want to jump into this industry as a carrier right off the bat, then you will no doubt find a way to do it. First off, I am not trying to dissuade you so I can recruit you. The carriers you listed...
