Could be. But some of us just like running our own companies. Who are these "reputable" carriers you speak of? How and why are they reputable? Fame or size? EO advertising? We may be small, but we are considered quite "reputable" by the patrons we serve. They put a lot of confidence in us to...

NLM is a decent payer. See my last posts when it comes to some of those Alliance members you refer to.

PJ is right. There aren't many Gold Book shippers and brokers, especially in expedite. It is the rare customer that consistently pays in 30. I could name a few companies that have advertised on here that, although they seem large and solvent to you, are all above 90 days to pay, and therefore...

    RIP, little buddy

I've only had my dog in the truck on two trips so far, mainly because my wife rode along as well. He just turned 4, so I hear where you're coming from about not being ready to lose a pet. He was my wife's companion at home when I was still driving. Now that I am dispatching full-time, he runs...

JD Clark takes on a big challenge

I'm sure we all have known even an unscrupulous owner operator or two that has made their way through the ranks of our companies. It's really sad.

Have you tried to secure a loan from a bank for YOUR endeavors recently? The banks have been given your taxpayer money already, so they no longer see the need to operate in the risk of loaning money to anyone. They just live off of all of those new fees they charge to checking accounts that used...

    I'm Back!!

Hey John. Glad you're back and things are well. Sorry it didn't work for us to get together when you were in Florida.

    Fuel Surcharge & Carrier Obligation

One of the silly games that some carriers have recently begun in lew of skyrocketing fuel prices, but not necessarily skyrocketing profits, is to show an increase in FSC (especially those who pay a contract rate and sliding scale FSC), but lower the contract base rate on newly recruited owner...

TA Ontario Ca, New Rules and fees

Actually it was, "Wow. Why does it take them so long?" Now if you arrive on a Friday and have a two day weekend, I can understand. Are you running solo in a straight or Tractor? I could understand then. But under normal circumstances....

    Who's hiring for cargo vans?

Lawrence gave you a good link. I looked at it. It works. I don't plan on taking on ANY vans for the rest of this year. Not unless it's a turtle top w/ raised doors. Then maybe.

    IS ANYONE moving very CONCERN

Well, they do own NLM, but most of that is run by others.

    Gps device

CharlesD and I tested the Google Latitude about the same time. We added each other and found that it really didn't do well at tracking each of us real-time. Maybe they've made improvements since we tried it, but when I called to ask if he was still sitting at exit so-and-so in central PA, he...

    silly fuel price differences

I guess they don't have that much competition after all. Ever notice how a mom and pop truckstop will be WAY cheaper than the Pilot and TA, so long as they aren't on the same exit? If on the same exit, they will only be about .03 cheaper.

    He got it glory bee

International mail, when performed by national post offices, is never speedy. Add to that a catastrophe on the other end, and I'm sure that the postal delivery (or any kind of delivery) is going to be less than stellar. Glad they received it. We just received a package that was shipped to us...

    The South

It seems as if the rules are changing daily as of late. Generally, Memphis, Nashville, and Knoxville are all good for our straights. Memphis is usually decent for vans, but Nashville has been hit and miss. Then again, what do I know? I could not get a straight out of Bordentown yesterday...

Questions for those operating under their own authority

We started out with one truck as well, with me in it. It took time to develop a customer base, and we are still developing that base. One visit to the customer's office doesn't constitute acceptance or rejection. Everything takes time. There was one guy who said he would never need my...
