Be Prepared for When an Accident Occurs
Out of the blue… crash! A speeding car hits the side of your truck. Did this just really happened? It takes a moment for your mind to grasp the reality of the situation. You pull over to a safe place. Now what?
Safety training is vital in the transportation industry and great companies make it a real priority for both their owner operators and company drivers. However, even the most experienced trucker may not be ready when an accident actually happens. In the heat of the moment, it’s easy to forget important to do‘s like preserving dash cam footage, getting witnesses’ contact information, and taking pictures of the scene. That’s why we suggest keeping instructions on what to do after an accident in your glove box, just in case.
If you haul for a motor carrier, make sure you know their step-by-step guidelines. If the guidelines are online, print out a copy for your truck. Put the safety manager’s direct dial line in your phone; and after an accident, call as soon as possible. You want to make sure you abide by your company‘s rules and follow their guidance.
