Insurance Fraud
Just recently we got a “letter” (email) from our insurance company who covers our straight truck. In this letter they we talking about they have seen a sharp rise in claims in recent months. They wanted to share with us things they are doing to combat the three top things they see as the biggest fraud. They are:
1. Vandalism
2. Suspicious Fires
3. Theft
The company has also stepped-up claim investigations and has a zero-tolerance approach to fraudulent claims and criminal activity.
Here is a list of what they are doing to combat these:
- Enhanced Investigations: Every fire, vandalism, and theft claim is being thoroughly reviewed and investigated with heightened scrutiny.
- Collaboration with Law Enforcement: We are working closely with law enforcement agencies nationwide to ensure individuals responsible for these acts are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
- Fraud Prevention: Suspicious claims will be flagged and pursued aggressively to protect our policyholders from bearing the financial burden of fraudulent activity.
Here is the list of things as the insured you can do to help prevent these claims:
- Secure Your Vehicle: Most theft and vandalism incidents occur when trucks are left unattended, especially over long weekends and holidays like Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's. Park in secure, well-lit areas, and never leave your truck unlocked or running unattended.
- Exercise Caution in Winter: Hazardous road conditions are already upon us in many areas. Practice safe driving and ensure your vehicle is in top condition for winter weather. Also, never use an open flame of any sort to heat your tanks.
- Inspections and Maintenance: Ensure your truck is well-maintained to reduce the risk of fires caused by mechanical issues. Pay special attention to electrical systems, brakes, and tires, and address any potential problems promptly.
We thought we would share these with you.
