Dock Bumpers / Dolly Legs

We have had our dock bumpers on the back of our truck since the beginning and they are still in excellent shape.   One of the ways we have kept from having them ripped off or damaged is how we back into the dock.   We have a backup camera which helps greatly to line the bumpers up, but not always are there bumpers on the dock and we just back up to a flat plate.   Once I hit the dock or the bumpers I pull the truck forward a couple inches.   This enables the back of the truck to move freely as the forklift moves in and out.   If the bumpers get in a bind the bumper can and will  be ripped off of our truck or damaged.   The other thing that Bob never fails to do is to roll down our dolly legs to support the box.   This stabilizes the truck as the fork lift drives in and out.   A fork lift can weigh 4500 for an electric one and this is a lot of moving weight going in and out of the box.   Often the fork lift carries a pallet that weighs 2000lbs.   Bob leaves the handle of the dolly legs loose and sticking out so that when we look in the mirrors we can easily see that the dolly legs have not been lifted.   This is one of the ways we take care to keep our truck in top condition.
