What do you all do when you are down for a day or more? Do you explore what’s around you? Do you look for new places to eat? This blog is going to talk about some of the things we do when we have nothing to do.
Full disclosure, with a dog in the truck it does limit the amount of time that we can be gone from the truck. We have done a few things in the past but honestly, we do very little outside of the truck. If we do go somewhere, it is usually with other people. Evidently, driving truck is enough adventure for us.
We do like to find out of the way restaurants. When we first began trucking we were hauling campers with a one ton dually. Any time we delivered a camper I would ask the person at the dealership where their favorite local restaurant was located. We would then go and check it out. For the most part we were not disappointed.
I know a driver that does puzzles while sitting. Someday, I would like to do the same. There is a special case that can hold an unfinished puzzle of up to one thousand pieces. One of these days I will go to a hobby store or search Amazon to purchase one. I just hope the dog doesn’t eat any of the puzzle pieces. Other friends have other hobbies such as knitting or crocheting.
If we stay away from home for many weeks, we will have to go grocery shopping. Then Dave does some cooking with what was purchased. Once I used one of those apps to buy groceries. We are the type of people who still like to walk through a store to pick what we want to buy. That gives us a chance to get out of the truck.
Speaking of cooking, what types of gadgets do you keep in the truck with which to cook? We have an induction cooktop so we do carry some pots and pans. We also have a coffee maker, pressure cooker, waffle iron, ice maker, air fryer and smokeless grill. We do not carry all of these things at the same time but rather rotate them as we change what we want to make. For example, we do not carry the ice maker or smokeless grill in the winter. Those will be used more in the summer months.Â
As you can tell, food seems to be most important to us. Another is the television. We have a satellite dish on our truck and watch what we can when the unit works. Some parts of the country are better than others when trying to get a signal.
As I write this I think this sounds like we are some very boring people. Truthfully, we just like to hunker down when we are not driving. We enjoy being together and just being quiet. Maybe you do too? Or maybe you like to get out and explore. Whatever is your please we wish you millions of safe, profitable, and enjoyable miles!
