Fuel for Thought
The Weekend Report
Out of service. I can’t remember a time in the last five
years that I picked a date and took time off for a whole week. Up to this point
I’ve let events drive my time off. A transmission rebuild gave me a two month
vacation; Deer strike, six weeks…
Luck on the fringes. Nice miles for the week even while I was trying to manage coming off the road for this week. First it was east Pennsylvania to central Ohio. Approaching the middle of the week, I figured if nothing came up I would head to St Louis for time off. Within four hours of going out of service and nearing St Louis, a St Louis to Columbia, SC load surfaced. Hmm…that sort of over shoots my goal, but I’m flexible. After delivery and a nap, I started the long troll towards the west, and a well paying 25 miler came up which funded the rest of my move all the way back to St Louis. I rolled into St Louis with two hours to spare before ice glazed the area.
Wilco Hess. I tend to have a better chance of getting a boost in my fuel economy when fueling at Hess stations. This run through the southeast gave me a chance to find a couple more Hesses to mark in my atlas. These stores had auto diesel, pay at the pump. Aiken, SC has a new store on Interstate 20, exit 11. At Monteagle, TN the grimy old station was scraped away and completely rebuilt.
