Lunch In Frankfort, Kentucky (vanners)
Sorry, this one is for vans. Vanners feed off the bottom and just scrape by, so we have to enjoy the finer things when we encounter them. And occasionally we’ll gloat about it. Technically, a straight truck might be able to pull this one off (check the location details at the end).
This was a random find. Parked at the Wal-Mart and feeling just so….when I scanned across the location on Google Maps. Adelia’s Bakery and Café is a small, local, limited hours kind of place (1000-1700, closed Sundays). Like I said, it’s small. One person at the counter and two in the back. Fast food seating, but fresh and clean. The obviously, ever changing menu is on chalk boards on a wall and above the counters. The menu looks more like a list of things that are available for the customer to patch together. Most prices didn’t seem to be posted. One daily special was $6 something, so I wasn’t scared away. I ended up with a Bavarian Pretzel Roast Beef Sandwich and salad cup to-go for $7.41. I’ll post a photo when I have a minute. Other items on the daily menu included bean and ham soup, chicken and sausage gumbo, bacon and spinach quiche, roasted portabella and carmelized onion panini, and curried egg salad. The sandwich board was beyond standard breads, meats and filler. The bakery selection was a small, glass counter of fluffy and dense chocolate choices and tall meringue. I’ll be back.
Frankfort, Kentucky, Interstate 64 exit 53 north. One mile north on US 127. Adelia’s on the left and city water tower on the right. The service road is the old US 127, so it can make a good turnaround for a drive-by in a straight truck, but don’t expect parking for a large vehicle. Large vehicles need to check the area on Google Maps. There are large store parking lots in the area, but slightly spaced dued to the hilly terrain. I would save this one for the vanners.
