Fuel for Thought

Laredo, Texas

A Michigan to Laredo load, on top of a couple other loads, made this week better than my entire February. It’s been several months since my last trip to south Texas.

Fracking?   I’ve never seen so much life along the route between San Antonio and Laredo. The night sky has a suburban glow nearly the entire two hour drive--orange glow of petroleum burn-off, lit drilling sites, and lots of active RV camps.

Home streak.   Three consecutive days and three “home” stops from Michigan to Texas. Grand Rapids, St Louis and Dallas.

Hoekstra Transportation.   Mark your map with another great place for Freightliner service. I’ve been waiting for the opportunity to try Hoekstra, because of the their location and reputation. I’m trying to coordinate major preemptive work on the van in the next month, and I needed a second opinion on an oil leak that I couldn’t access. When I ended up delivering near Chicago and saw another round of snow bearing down on the area, I figured it wouldn’t hurt to take some shop time. I called Hoekstra on Monday afternoon, and they fit me into their schedule Tuesday morning in Grand Rapids. The Sprinter service facility was roomie, clean and organized. The job was quick, since it was a simple visual inspection, and they let me drive around town during the morning and return for a reinspection. Can’t beat the price either. I’ll use them for major work in the future.
