Progress Toward a House Speaker. Is it Enough?
On a 113 to 99 vote, House Republicans nominated Steve Scalise to be Speaker. With that level of support, he now goes to the House floor where he will need at least 218 votes to get elected to the Speaker's seat. The "chaos caucus" has more than enough votes to deny him the seat. Will they do that, or will they restore order to the House by seating a speaker?
Scalise defeated Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan in a 113 to 99 vote during a closed-door meeting.
