Republicans Still Can't Govern

Various sources this morning are reporting Scalise does not have and cannot get the votes needed to win the Speaker's chair. No other names are being floated at this point. House Republicans are meeting once again behind closed doors to determine the flavor of their next catastrophic failure. They are requiring phones to be checked at the door because they don't trust each other enough to communicate outside the room. They're meeting behind closed doors because they don't want to look like fools. (Too late).

The only way I see out of this mess is for rational Republicans, if any remain, to work the Democrats to find a nominee who can actually be elected so the House can get back to business. What keeps them from doing that? Fear, I think.

Meeting Over. House Republicans Produce Nothing

The 3-hour, closed-door meeting of House Re;publicans is over. They produced nothing. The House remains closed for business, and will remain so until the Republican majority elects a Speaker, or until some Republicans join with Democrats to elect a Speaker.

House Republicans can't govern.

Those House Republicans Are Doing a Find Job, Aren't They?

"On Thursday, several members of the House suggested a solution is unlikely until early next week.
What exactly that looks like remains an open question."

House Republicans can't govern.

What is the number pressing need that you want the House to do once they get a speaker?

Several news agencies are reporting that Scalise has withdrawn his name from the Speaker's race. The Republicans need to get their act together pronto and get Jordan into place. Getting their act together does NOT mean surrendering to the Democrats looking for votes or caving to the absurd notion of giving Hakeem Jeffries the Speaker's chair. They had that opportunity during the McCarthy vote and the Dems voted unanimously to remove him as Speaker. It would've only taken a few "pragmatic" Dems to vote "present" to keep McCarthy in the chair, defeat the "Gaetz 8", and keep things stable for the sake of the House and the country. Instead they as usual voted as a block for the Gaetz crew and their chaos.

They already tried Jordan and he got less Republican votes than Scalise in their closed-door meetings.
