Republicans Still Can't Govern
Various sources this morning are reporting Scalise does not have and cannot get the votes needed to win the Speaker's chair. No other names are being floated at this point. House Republicans are meeting once again behind closed doors to determine the flavor of their next catastrophic failure.
Movement in this direction. The only way I see out of this mess is for rational Republicans, if any remain, to work the Democrats to find a nominee who can actually be elected so the House can get back to business. What keeps them from doing that? Fear, I think.
What is the number pressing need that you want the House to do once they get a speaker? Those House Republicans Are Doing a Find Job, Aren't They?
"On Thursday, several members of the House suggested a solution is unlikely until early next week.
What exactly that looks like remains an open question." (Source)
House Republicans can't govern.
And then there were none.Scalise expected to drop out:
They already tried Jordan and he got less Republican votes than Scalise in their closed-door meetings.Several news agencies are reporting that Scalise has withdrawn his name from the Speaker's race. The Republicans need to get their act together pronto and get Jordan into place.
