He absolutely did do the right thing. Unfortunately it took half the responses and Mr. Elliott to convince him of that. That was my point.
I like how you waited until the dust settled before making it, too.

It seems that your point was to try to make someone look bad. Then again that appears to be your main goal on here at most times.
Yup. :(

There's no reason this type of thing cannot be discussed without keeping score of who got a smack down or anything else. It's not a contest, and it doesn't need to be confrontational. There are plenty of people who might (and have) put stickers on their vehicles without giving it a second thought - now maybe they will.

What is the big deal about Dennis changing his mind? Seems to me that he listened to opinions, then did what he felt prudent. Looks to me like he is a wise man.

I never gave it a first or a second thought, as the Fed expressly forbids placing political bumper stickers on vehicles that are leased to them. (oh yeah, it's in your contract);)

That is the difference between the fed and Load 1. The Fed tells you what to do and Load1 suggests, but ultimately its up to the contractor. Dennis out of respect decided to take it off, not because he was told to do so.

I see it as an action/reaction type thing, and would not be surprised if it was added to future Load 1 contracts...JMO.;)

Or maybe Load 1 contractors are just smarter and don't need everything spelled out in a contract:p

That was hilarious - wish I could have brought it along to this truck - it's almost as cool as the "Don't blame me, I voted for Ed!" sticker I got from the TeePee Supper Club in Tomah, Wi :D

Oh man, you don't even wanna start a feud with all us Fed people, 'cuz we will come over there and bop you with our purple and teal pom poms err I mean purple and red pom poms or whatever color we are this week.:D

But I stand by my original post, that Load 1 will have the no bumper stickers rule added to their contract eventually.

I didn't get up through Grand Marais this year, so no Sven and Ole's bumper sticker. I did get through Ely, MN and should have picked up a WELY bumper sticker. Charles Kuralt once owned this radio station. He's dead, so I don't know who owns it now. Certainly a way cool logo. I'll check into what they have for bumper stickers. Should go good with a Sven and Ole's Pizza bumper sticker and wouldn't look bad opposite an E.O. bumper sticker either.

Ely truly is the end of the road, at least for U.S. Route 169. Or maybe it is the beginning of U.S. 169, depending on your point of reference.

John does not like meaningless rules or policies..no need to babysit us at Load 1..Why does a carrier feel they have to "Control" and set a policy on every little issue?....After just speaking to him about this....he'd prefer we'd use good ole fashion business common sense....and his opinion is spreading like wildfire thru word of mouth....

OVM,
I bet you he has a lot of policies that you may not know about and he, like many others views the brand of the company in a different light than the driver's do.

FedEx rules are theirs, L-1 rules may not seem to be all open but I bet you show up with something distasteful at a pickup or delivery and the customer gets upset and calls the company, the distasteful thing will be gone and maybe the driver.

if someone breaks from common courteous and manners at a customers A rule is not necessary...we are all grown up and don't need a list of useless rules.....termination would be expected....

BUT how many would think that is fair?

I bet you wouldn't get a great many people saying it is fair, not to pick on Chef, he said it clearly is his van, his name on the title and so on, which may be the attitude of those who would stick the thing on their truck or van.

THIS brings up another question, can someone stick ads on their truck or promote some cause without the carrier's permission?

Commonly bigger organizations require more written rules to maintain some type of quality control. It still starts with the person at the tops attitude but is just the nature of the beast.

Common sense and the Golden Rule, which is pretty much how Load 1 operates, says no.

Someone with the attitude of "my truck my rules" has no common sense, and aren't likely to be kept around very long to prove it over and over again.

Those who don't think that's fair are the ones with no common sense.

You are so right xiggi, it is all about protecting the brand.

I think it's great that j elliott posts on EO and that he has the respect of his contractors and therefore doesn't need near as many rules written into his contracts.

Not that Virginia Albanese has any less respect from the contractors at FECC, but I don't expect that she would post on EO concerning putting bumper stickers on vehicles.
