Ok..just 1 example..

I picked up a load the other night that I also did with my former carrier...exact same load....

454 loaded miles...10 lb box..the difference was...

$163.44  That IS huge for a CV...HUGE..

.81 vs $1.17 now you tell me?

I would have to drive another 201.77 miles to make the same money.
Yep..more fuel, more wear and tear on my Sprinter..
to make the same money...does NOT make sense..

Yep..."Rising to the Challenge" a "dime at a time"

Strange what good rates and 100% FSC can do to ones outlook!

That is what has me thinking, if there is that much difference in pay for the same run between 2 carriers, what are the others getting?Obviously, Load 1 is the more honest one of the bunch, I feel, reflecting in the pay to us.

A carrier may give a better rate to be "first call" carrier. The carriers on down the list get a higher rate.

I'm already doing dedicated runs from Indiana to Ohio and back. I just wonder what he pays for the Canadian stuff because I am willing to go there too.

The think I am tired of is Indiana, it used to be a great state to travel in but because of a business reason, I don't have ezpass on the truck and pay tolls with cash. Coming out of the east gate on Indiana's toll road, they took the toll people out and are forcing us to use the "automated" system. It is great to sit there for 5 minutes trying to get the little ticket read and then paying is a whole 'nother experience - depending on the unit, it may not like the crisp 10s and 20s that you put into it and other times they short change you with them d*mn dollar coins that they won't take in the machines in the first place.

I agree on the toll road it sucks, I avoid it, may take me longer to get somewhere, but if that's what I have to do. Last time I was on the toll road I got a speeding ticket for not slowing down to 45 at first signs....I was going 50 (

Ok my 1st week:

5 runs
1963 loaded miles
296 dead head miles
2250 total miles
$1.03 loaded miles
$.90 all miles
$2025.81 total revenue for all loads.

As was said, more per mile and 100% of the FSC makes life a bit easier.....

Oh and I also picked up a load that I have sat on over the weekend because I had to be home that pays $400 and will be delivered by 9 am monday that will go into last week, since it was dispatched friday afternoon and will be delivered before 1700 monday.....it pays $.1.01 a mile....

I don't think we are per say more honest than some other carriers, but that is why I like a solid percentage system. It is open honest and fair by nature. It makes everyone stay sharp and work smart. The same reason we pay layover, it puts the extra pressure on dispatch to try and keep units moving and not sitting. We will always have some layovers, but at least I feel everyone shares in the pain as well as the gain. Percentage is especially more beneficial to the owner op on short or regional runs. You could accomplish the same thing on a mileage basis, but you would have to come up with a tier type program and I think that just gets more and more complicated. I like the keep it simple system and the transparency of it.

As far as cross border, we generally always bid higher on cross border, so in turn it pays higher to the o/o.

I like that KISS principle....You've had a good management background.:)

Thanks for the response, I may be talking to you soon.

Actually the response is the honesty many look for.

Exactly...Johns interaction here, the fact that you will see him all over the building talking to the people he employees and those that contract to his company, find him eating hot dog at the local coney island dog joint with those same people and the transparency that is found through all of those that I have had contact with was the over riding factor in me going to Load 1, everything is wide open and honest, you don't even feel that you are being fed a line of BS...by anyone...

This is not to betaken as a shot at Bolt at all, its just how they run their business, but as a contract driver, I could not get past the drivers lounge..there are locked doors everywhere...At load one, i can walk in the building and go to the admin offices, the recuriting offices the dispatch load planning area, Johns office and anywhere else....there is an open air to how the company is run and the way you have contact with those within the company.

Johns openness on EO, is also found in your dealings with those that he surrounds himself with....

I am looking forward to a long relationship with Load 1.....Thanks John...

Hey Chef, your talking about 'open doors' reminded me of the first company my owner was contracted with. They claimed to have an open door policy all the way to the top if needed.
BUT, in the hallway leading to the dispatch room was a wide white piece of tape across the floor and next to it was a sign that read "Anyone not authorized crossing this line will be immediately escorted from the building and any contracts terminated". I laughed thinking what a great "open door policy. I realize they can't have people just aimlessly wondering around the building but come on!!!
What they didn't know?????? I crossed the line 3 times when no-one was looking!! hahahaha.....ONE SMALL VICTORY FOR THE LITTLE GUY!!!!! LOL

With NO offence meant to anyone, there are some scary truck drivers out in the world. Expediters by the nature of their job may not shave (the males) or shower as often as the 9-5 office worker. To say anyone can walk into their employers office, work zone, dispatch, pay roll what ever and not disturb the work force that is in said office, is for me hard to believe. These people are trying to do a job and to have a stranger wandering around, seems to me would not be helpful.
If you need to talk to someone make an appointment.;)

Bill,

To some extent I agree, but I think most of our employees and contractors share a mutual respect that each has a job to do. We have most of departments set up where our contractors can walk right up to the counter of the workstations to see the people they need to speak too. It is open, but not a free for all. Drivers or o/o's normally ask to come back and speak to me, as I might be on the phone, in a meeting or talking with someone. Such as in the same manner I ask before I get in one of their trucks. While some may abuse this system, we have found that 99% respect and appreciate it. Simple courtesy goes along way.

I agree, but my point was that they claimed to have an open door policy. Agreed, no one should be able to just wander around aimlessly, going thru the proper channels is the correct way to do it.
I DID that. They said in orientation that if anyone wanted to go and watch the dispatchers for awhile to get an idea of what they go thru to just ask & arrangements would be made. I asked and from the look on they guys face you'd think I was asking for the keys to Fort Knox!! lol Never did get 'the tour'.............

We called to get information about this company, never had a return call or email.

You can learn quite a bit about Load 1 from this thread as well as other threads on this forum.

That said, call Brian in recruiting or PM John (jelliott) and you'll get the information you request. If you like, you can PM me and I'll try and answer your questions from an O/O's standpoint.

I've been an owner operator in the expedite business for 20 years. Most of it with one company. Came to Load 1 in February. Everything started off very well and continues to be that way. When someone says, the grass isn't always greener on the other side, that is not always true. Being associated with Load 1 is kind of like a family atmosphere. Everyone knows your name and treats you well. It's nice to be at a company where everyone isn't *****in and complaining all the time. The owner is unlike any other owner I have met. The company is a direct reflection of him.
