Right now we have all straights and single drops. Most of them are 53ft air ride curtainsides. We have 6 new trailers coming in the end of the month. One is a dd RGN. We did not put a curtain on it. We also do some robotics on these trailers out of Auburn Hills.

I looked at the pics. Is it the KW with the smaller sleeper or the other one? Who do you run for now?

Those robotics moves are nice, and you need the curtainsides to move them as most go right into the plant floor...from my experience with them....

Glad to hear about the RGN...I've been thinking about making a move, and getting my own truck....a tractor or class8 twin axle Straight... Love my carrier..... It's been a long good ride here....

John,

Do you guys have any company vans or sprinters? I know you have some bigger trucks that are company trucks.

Sorry, we don't currently have any company units that size. We have a quite a few company tractors, and just a few company straight trucks. We might have a good owner we could set you up with!

We called to get information about this company, never had a return call or email.

Looks like to me a drive by poster. John Elliott is one of the most honest people I know. I talk with John a lot and even talked to him a 11 pm. John has always returned my calls if I call him, but 98% of the time he picks up his phone when I call. As for the People in the office, they all do the same.

As to the driver that was asking about tractors with Load One. Ken Holder is the manager of the truck load department and is one great guy to work with. You can't go wrong with Ken. I hope this info helps.

Took me three weeks of messages 4 times daily and finally got the head of Ceva Expedite in Romulus on the phone as he was temporarily working dispatch.....Nothing more annoying then leaving messages and never getting a call back. I understand he was busy but after three weeks I was getting annoyed...Some here have said I am a very patient person, which is true. As for Towne Air if the terminal manager is in he will take a call, and if leave a message I get a return call as soon as possible. Sounds like Load 1 is the same, that is a good thing!!!

Let me get this straight, and slow down some. So as I read this clip on Load 1, it appears many of the gang is signing on with Load 1, thus leaving huge voids with many companies. Hmm, I use to see this pattern in the auto sales business when many sales people would follow the rumours and run to all the rice burner dealerships because they were selling more,,,oboy, it never worked out that way in the long run, but I'm old so what do I know. :D I will admit that I to have done this in other jobs and followed the crowd to paradise. Reminds me of the current voters who follow the BS for change in America and guess what,,,,hows that working for u now gang,,not.

Be careful on that change stuff,,,there are cliffs at the end.

Well Sky, maybe. I have a question for John, how much did your fleet increase in the last year?

Ya know last week the same day John had a root canal..he called me that evening from home..asking me how things were going and did I notice any operational short comings and have any suggestions for any possible resolutions...
In the last few weeks there was a big influx of expedite vehicles and dispatch has had to step up their pace...so naturally there are going to be some bumps...and add to that the QC installed from a phone system they had to adjust to....so far they've done a great job of stepping up....

Sky, it's nothing close to "huge voids". It's a few guys from EO out of a fairly good sized overall expedite fleet. I think the other companies will be fine.

The grass is always greener... but there's a catch to that. There is a field with the greenest grass just as there is a field with the worst grass. I've met John and talked with him for a while. He's definitely hands on and knows the industry and what he's doing. He's growing a successful business and doing it the right way, gradually as the business warrants. They aren't doing the mass cattle drives seen in some places including other carriers and car dealerships. As long as John has any say in the matter I'm sure they never will.

Does Load-1 have warts? Yes. I can't tell you what they are but knowing there's no such thing as perfection I can guarantee you they do. I can also say I'm sure they are small and few in number. I can further say I'm certain John has a pretty sharp scalpel handy and isn't afraid to wield it when needed so the warts probably don't stick around too long once identified. It will be interesting following their progress.

Overall we saw about a 25% increase overall in the company fleet. Now with that said we trimmed some dead wood (roughly 10%) going into the recession. I made the choice to have a little smaller fleet, but to keep my good units running better. So we are probably 15% above pre-recession size today.

Overall I am sure every company has issues or "warts". You have to constantly look for ways to improve. As well as companies change and grow you have to look at shaking things up and re-evaluating. What worked at 50 units may not work at 100 units. But we are all guilty of doing the same old thing, if it ain't broke philosophy. I try hard to push a mentality of adapting, changing and improving. Whether it be people, customers, technology, or anything. We are no better than other companies as far as having areas that can be improved. What separates companies is their willing and determination to make the changes for improvement.

As far as things go, we are doing just fine. The sudden little surge is really less than 5% and it doesn't rock a boat our size. But OVM is right, we have a lot of things like the new satellites and scanning phasing in. As well we just completed a revamp and system virtulization of our transportation management system. As well we are 90% complete on a brand new blade server setup running all of our systems in a "virtual" environment. Awesome stuff, but like anything....getting it going can be the big challenge.

Jason loves the new QC. He called the other day to ask if I wanted it on, and I said hell yes! No more "bad zones" or "Oops, I forgot to fax the paperwork in." I know I've done that enough times. LOL Right now, $30/week is ok for a babysitter. I don't particularly like them, but they beat having to carry an extra phone hands down.

After sitting through the last episode of Grey's anatomy**, I really wish people would stop using the word Wart.

**By the way, it was not by choice.
