What it costs vs what you make

A basic vehicle with only the required bells and whistles ought to take 30%-40% of your gross for overhead. You'll likely have enough deductions to keep the revenuer's portion well below the 1/3 you mention.

expexted fuel mileage on this powerstroke van ???

RE: expexted fuel mileage on this powerstroke van I had a '92 and a '96, each with an add-on roof and four sheet of plywood walls, floors, bunk. I got a little better than 18mph loaded, empty and idle included. I sold each of them at about 450,000 miles and as far as know, they are still...

    Fleet Owner???

In addition to Miko's good comments, I think you'll find the successful fleet owners became such because they drove their own truck for a few years and after learning the ropes, including potential overhead and profit, types of personalities to hire, best carrier for their financial goals...

    Respect...

MVBN: Well said and on the mark. There is no perfect carrier for every person and no perfect person for every carrier. We each tend to support our respective carriers when talking to other folks, for who among us would continue to stay with a carrier that treated it's O/O's as terrible as...

    Here I go!!!!

Joe: Good Luck and best wishes. We look forward to your next post and sharing your good and not do good experiences with us. Hopefully, you've gotten a good foundation of hints and clues from the EO members to make your entry into expediting a smooth process.

    Miles?

My 2000 chev 3500 now has 468K miles. So far, I've replaced fuel pump twice, alternator once and brakes once. I do tune-up at each 100K miles and change oil every 5000. Still runs great. So, Miko, now that you have new hubs and d shaft, I think you can look forward to many more miles. Terry

    slow loads?

I'm not with PantherII but I cann offer a couple of possible explanations for others getting the two loads from your area. Might have been a long team load for which you didn't have the time for a break on the load. i.e. a quicker pickup and delivery. Customer may have required an immediate...

    slow loads?

We cargo van drivers anxiously await the busier period which we are now entering. Hang in there! To which carrier are you leased? Perhaps one or more of your fellow leasees will help get rolling in the right areas for your circumstances. Terry

    A Word of Gratitude

Welcome to EO. You've picked a great place to live, but a poor place from which to expedite freight on a nationwide basis. Rene' and I drive a van leased to FedEx Custom Critical and have gotten to or thru Arizona perhaps twice a year on average (Yuma and L.A. in 2004). We've also seen...

    Layover after a NYC run...

Different srokes for different carriers; however, if delivering in the morning, we like to spend the remainder of the day either near JFK or near the Mall at the center of Staten Island. Lots of good eats near the Mall. Lots of freight for our carrier out of NYC. Also a great freight place is...

RE: On Time Express Highlighted.......Thats my com These are the type of sentiments we each shared about our respective companies during te early 90's. It's nice to read such a positive, upbeat comment from a truely happy camper. Scott's remarks prove the adage that theres a right in fit...

I Need Some Kind Of Help. Not Trucking Related

whitewolf53 I, too, am sorry to hear of your misfortune. I get one or two of these offers every week. The latest scam seems to be offers for too-good-to-believe software such as windows XP for $60. I wouldn't be too harsh on the bank, if I were in your shoes. They set aside their policy...

    Gm and Ford auto trans.

I had an E4OD replaced/rebuilt twice in a 92 powerstroke and twice in a 96 powerstroke. My transmission probem light was flashing so much, I kept a piece of electrical type over it. This expense and that of a new diesel were part of the reason I switched over to a Chev.

    Stupid things we have done

It seems that most of the stupid moves are related to fuel and my most stupid expedite moment was no exception. It was after midnight during a lengthy run when Rene' and I pulled up to the four wheeler pumps at a Flying J to fuel our nearly empty diesel Ford van. I was not only low on fuel but...

    Hmmm....

I think the primary distinction between the B and C is dock height for the C. It seems more and more customers are requireing dock high trucks nowadays because they either don't have a ramp, or don't want to go out in the weather. That truck above would certaintly make a nice B for those...

    sprinter vans

The Sprinter is growing in popularity among the expedite Owner/Operators. More personal space, more cargo space, great mileage reported at approx 22 mpg. A little pricey compared to the Ford/GM/Chevy cargo vans but said to be worth the extra money by those that own them that reported here and...

General questions regarding the current fuel situa

RE: General questions regarding the current fuel s HotFr8Recruiter: Your explanation goes a long way towards explaining the relationship of the 15% FSC to the driver's cost of fuel. But, your example indicated the driver is getting a 15% FSC based on his pay only, not the customers tarrif...
