Cheri brings up a great point. Some things are more difficult to do when you have a pet. In addition, we idle (use the generator) now for the comfort of our pet when we are out of the truck, where we might not have had to before.
There are shipper/receivers that do not allow pets on their property. If you are a team, a co-driver can wait outside with the pet. That's what we do.
I have seen drivers with pets leave the pet tied up or in a crate outside the gate, but I could never do that.
Although we've never met, you've been one of those "screenames" that I paid attention to. I can't imagine what you must be feeling at this time. My thoughts and prayers go out to you. One day at a time. Please take care of you and please don't be a stranger here.
Sitting at the Pilot in 78 in Memphis. We only stopped to grab coffee and were headed down to the J in Olive Branch. We haven't stopped here in about 4 years and I was actually amazed. The parking lot is spotless, and they now have security walking the lot. We decided to stay, and I can say...

We run alot of DOD loads. I would say yes it's worth it.

Yesteryear, Our Sept, was ok, nothing to brag about. We've had an awesome June, and Oct. Last year, was about the same, Dec, and Jan are our "killer" months. Much more sitting than running :(
We have our "favorite" dispatchers, but not because of things they've done for us, but because they are a pleasure to deal with. Dispatchers that know what is going on, and are immediately there to help if needed, or leave us alone to do our job.
