It's a Team's Life
The price of fuel is going up!
Does a dime really equal a dime?
I am basing my figures on getting 11 miles to the gallon and raising the price of fuel ten cents at a time.
Just looking at fuel and not including the fuel surcharge it is easy to see that it takes a pretty good jump in fuel prices to change our per mile revenue we need to move our truck.
If the price of fuel is $3.70 buying one less cup of coffee on a load will allow us to run for the same price per mile as fuel costing $3.50.
When we add FSC into the mix it gets even more interesting with a truck that is getting above the 9 mpg that the fuel surcharge is based on for a D truck.
When we get a load offer we look at the direction and terrain we will be traversing:
How heavy is the load and will we need to lower our lift axle?
Will we be traveling over many mountains or cities?
Will there be tolls involved?
Where will we need to fuel and the approximate cost of fuel where we will fuel.
Once we have answered the above questions we can make an
informed decision on accepting or rejecting the load.
