As soon as we saw the information about the Expo we booked our flight from Amarillo, TX to Detroit, MI to spend the weekend at the Detroiter parking lot.  I gathered up paper and pens and a lot of questions that we knew we needed to ask of recruiters, truck salesman, and also drivers. We were deadly serious about this adventure as we would be burning all of our bridges by buying a truck, sellinig our home, and then moving several hundred miles to Saint Louis.  We rented a car and dressed for success we took off for the Detroiter Truckstop. We arrived early before the show started and the car attendant took one look at us and parked us in the exhibitor parking lot. Our eyes where big as we looked around at the perfect sized trucks, the plethora of vendors, and drivers! We had hit the jackpot and we were armed for bear. One of our first stops on the way in was to stop at a FedEx Custom Critical truck that was in the truck show.  There were two girls polishing on their Western Star and probably if they would have known what was going to happen to them they might not have been so friendly to us.  I got out my paper and pen and I started asking questions of them and what they though of FedEx and Expediting. We then went over and started talking to recruiters and hit all of the recruiter booths. Some of the recruiters really left a bad taste in our mouth while others were more then happy to talk with us.  We then would go back to the girls and ask more questions. Then we were off to talk to truck salesman and look at the trucks they had brought.  We then went back to the girls with more questions. In between all of this we attended the workshops and this was the first time we met Terry O'Connell as a presenter. We talked with many drivers, recruiters, vendors, and truck salesman and each time kept going back to our favorites. The girls replied to a million questions not only about FedEx Custom Critical, but what an expediter is, what would be expected of us, could we have pets and they also talked about the other companies. What we really appreciated about the girls was when they did not know the answer they so, they did not bad mouth any company, and they told us the good and the bad.   We also went back to the FedEx recruiting booth often to verify  different things we were being told by other drivers. We also kept going back to Middle Georgia, talking with Wes and also Heath on what to expect when purchasing a truck.

Bob and I both feel that the willingness of these people helped us choose the right company for us and the right truck for us to started in this business. I took pages of notes and not once did any of these people act as if they are frustrated when talking to a newbie.  Billie and Amy continued to mentor us through getting started in expediting and offered us invaluable information. They all made us firm believers in ask as many questions as you can and compare notes when getting into this business.

In time we have been lucky enough to call Billie and Amy our friends which continues on to this day.  We have met them out on the road and have enjoyed going to play on go karts and also spend an enjoyable day at an amusement park.
