New Contacts

I have never been able to wear glasses and while I was born and raised in Arizona I never learned to wear sunglasses.   It took awhile to get used to driving with glasses and I was finally able to master the glasses.   Bob does not mind wearing glasses and made the transition easier then I was able.

Our exam went pretty well, I had not change in distance and a slight change in near sightedness.   Bob had a slight change in both.   Bob determined that he did not like the bifocals so he went with two sets of glasses.   I though decided on contacts and I am wondering if I have lost my mind!

I have watched both of our girls pop in their contacts with no problems and I felt in a short period of time I would be able to do this procedure quickly.   It has been a week and I am still at war with my contacts.   I finally mastered getting them out but getting them into my eye is a different story.

I have tried all kinds of tricks and my eyes are winning.   By the time I get my contacts in my eyes they are raw from having fingers rubbing all over the eyeball.   I have tried to trick my eyes by doing quick jabs, I have tried to be pry my eyes open with my fingers just to find my fingers are in the way, I have tried the gentle approach and slip them in and close my eyelid to no avail.   I am usually about ready to give a good strong poke and they magically slip in and for a bit I feel as if I have an eyelash in my eye.

All of this maneuvering has been in my home bathroom with great light, huge mirror and as much time as I need.   I am getting very concerned about getting these contacts in my eye before my driving shift is over for the day once back in the truck.   How will it work in a darker cab with a tiny mirror?   I know I will not try to put these in while the truck is moving as I am sure I will poke my eye out.   I am also concerned about dropping one of the little beasts, as they are practically invisible.   Time will tell how this will all work out.

I am bringing my glasses with me, as I need a backup or a safety net.   I am determined that the contacts will not beat me and I will learn to slip them in as easily as the girls do.
