Fall is in the air

Being from Arizona and then living in southwest Kansas there is basically two seasons: winter and summer.

Due to trucking we are able now to witness the seasons changing all over the country and it is amazing.   The first time I topped a hill and saw the fall colors on the mountains in Pennsylvania I thought I was going to have to stop the truck so I could regain my composure.   Pictures do not do the fall colors justice.

The sounds of the leaves rustling across the road are enough to cause shivers to run down my spine.   The first smell of a wood-burning fireplace and I am enraptured by this season.   One of my favorite smells of October is the smell of a jack-o-lantern all lit up and smiling in the evening.   I like this so much I usually carve one or two small pumpkins each year for the truck that I will light when we are sitting still.

Next comes November and I start thinking of Thanksgiving and everything I am thankful for.   Driving through the country I enjoy seeing all of the ingenious ways that people create the image of a turkey.   The round hay bales that have feathers and a turkey head added to their shape to the many blow up turkeys that are in yards.

While we have been at home the Cascadia had been prepared for fall and the coming of winter.   Bob has reinstalled our automatic chains and we have added our winter gear.   The pantry has been stocked with dried beans and some of our favorite winter meals.

Fall is a fantastic time of the year and fall colors are my favorites.
