It's a Team's Life
Complacent
Most of our time is spent in the truck out on the road with only a few days at home a year driving a different vehicle then other then our Cascadia.
One of the many differences between driving our truck and our pickup is that the truck can change weight quickly and handle differently. We always have to pay attention to how much weight we are hauling as it affects the handling and stopping distance of the truck.
When pulling off of the interstate this site greeted me at the top of the hill:
It looks like the driver tried to make the turn from the exit lane of the interstate to the street in front of the truck stop and did not make the turn. They could have been asleep and left the interstate, going to fast for conditions, or just going to fast, no matter what the result is not good.
This lapse in driver judgement was interesting as this was on the road that was by passing a very bad accident on the interstate that had I-40 shut down. It looks as if this truck was possible traveling at the posted speed and came around the corner and found stopped traffic. No matter what he took the shoulder to avoid hitting something and now has to be pulled out of where he stopped.
These accidents are graphic reminders to pay attention to
what we are doing, look far down the road and drive defensively.
This is even more important with winter
arriving and loss of traction and stopping distance.
