Bob is a night owl and I am an early bird which is great when under a load and not so great when in a small sleeper parked.   We used to be very light sleepers until we became truck drivers.  After being parked in many truck stops,  listening to truck brakes being set, reefers starting and stopping all night, and trucks running, once we go to sleep we both sleep like rocks.  Where it can become a little sketchy is the part of getting to sleep to begin with.

We have our ways of respecting each other's sleep patterns and letting the other stay up late and the other get up early.    When we bought the Cascadia one of the features we liked was the swivel seats in the cab.   We are able to use the driver’s seat like a lounge chair when swiveled; with the back of the seat tilted back and our trash can used as a footstool.  We can draw the sleeper curtains so the sleeper stays dark and any sound is muffled.

In the evening Bob will swivel the seat and play games on his I-Pad while listening to books or music using a headset.   We also have a portable DVD player with headphones and he can watch movies.   Before he settles in for his evening he will grab something to drink and often a sandwich he has made earlier for a snack.

In the mornings when I get up I make a cup of coffee, grab my computer and head for the front of the truck.   It is usually pretty dark and in the winter the front of the truck is cold.   I leave the curtains open to the sleeper until the sun starts to rise and let the Espar heater warm the interior of the cab.    In the summer when it is hot and we have the air conditioner going we have a small fan that we set in between the curtains with the curtains closed to pull cool air into the front of the truck from the sleeper.

This method works great for us and lets the other one sleep when they need to sleep without being bothered by a lot of noises.   We do not have a TV  and both of us are used to a lot of quiet inside the truck;  neither of us enjoys background noises.   Getting enough rest at the right times enables us to drive our normal shifts of switching between 2-3 in the morning and in the afternoon when we get our next load.
