It's a Team's Life
A day in the life of an Expediter!
One of the best features of Expediting is irregularity, which often leads to confusion not always caused by old age.... So I tell myself.
I woke up this morning and before I opened my eyes several thoughts ran though me head:
Where am I?
Are we waiting to pick up a load or deliver a load?
Are we on layover waiting?
Where is the bathroom?
This starting me giggling, as I thought to myself how odd these questions are to non-truck driving people and how common they are to truck drivers. Often the question is "Am I coming or am I going?" All of the questions are valid and all have to be answered before we progress with our day.
The first question is usually what state (not mental) are we in, and sometimes this question pops into my head when waking up in our home.
The second question tells me how the day will be laid out, we will be either traveling under a load or heading for an area to wait on a load after unloading.
The third question is the one I dislike the most when the answer is yes as that means there is not a schedule for the day except to wait for the phone or the Qualcomm to beep.
The fourth question can be embarrassing as I am often asleep when we are able to park for the night and I do not know where the building is. As I step out of the truck I look for the building and if one is not insight I look for overhead signs advertising to weary travelers that this is a travel plaza. If I do not see any sign I start walking in the roadway hoping out of my two choices, left or right I have chosen wisely. As I am walking I also have to remember how to get back to the truck as that is equally embarrassing to come out of the travel plaza and wonder, "Now where is our truck parked?"
I am glad to say that today when I woke up with these thoughts I realized we are parked in the customers parking lot waiting to get loaded! The best mental answer to my wake up questions.
