Rice was FAR better than Powell. He was more interested in what was good for Powell than doing a good job. Hillary? A total joke. That is why Obama put her in that position. She makes him look smart!! Put a competent person in that job and Obama would REALLY look dumb.

It seems that everyone will have an opinion about us, what we do and how we do it but without hessitation we have not been like the French, Dutch, Brits or Germans who colonized parts of Africa or Asia and then forced the 'natives' to think and act like they do. Vietnam is a great example of this, but I digress.
If we are to be taken seriously, we can't worry about what others think unless it is seriously a detriment to the relationship we have with that country. But rather need to worry about the objectives aligning with the bigger world stage.
For example, NK's leader demanded only talks with the US back in 2004/5. Bush said "no way little man, it is with others we speak or not at all". Without too much prodding from China, NK relented and we had our talks. The UN and EU went on a tizzy and twisted the facts around to look like we were demands unilateral talks.
Another example which goes to why they want us out of the way is the Iraq Oil for Food thing. John Bolton, a person who wasn't going to pull any crap with the UN fought the good fight to get the UN straight but because of the idiots we have here, he couldn't do much. Without him and others like him within our diplomatic corp, the Iran oil for food thing would have been hidden by the UN. See Germany and France among a few other countries didn't want us to invade Iraq not because they were a soverign country or that the UN already voted and passed a resolution calling for a change or the fact that Clinton set the tone for our operation in Iraq but rather because they didn't want to get caught. Nothing happened, people really didn't go to jail and Anon and others like him got away with murder in many ways.

As Greg alluded to earlier, it was our isolationist position in the late 1930s that contributed to the Nazis being able to invade the Rhineland uncontested. Had there been a coalition involving just the US, Britain & France to stand against Hitler's aggression and threaten to enforce the sanctions that were supposed to have kept Germany from re-arming we might never have had to fire a shot. Instead we were determined to stay out of Europe's problems. I guess FDR didn't want to rule the world.
If you apply that logic to today's Middle East, it's not hard to predict what will happen if Obama sits by and does nothing but apologize to his homies in the Muslim countries. Israel will be forced to act against Iran in their own self interest and the US will have to get involved militarily whether they want to or not. We cannot allow Israel to be overrun by their Arab enemies and if Iran gets bellicose we'll have to put troops back in Iraq to protect our interests there as well. History is in the process of repeating itself.

Yep, all of the above. Build up the ENTIRE military. The stronger we are the LESS LIKELY it is anyone will test us. That keeps us OUT of wars. Every time we have allowed our selves to become weak, such as now, bad things have happened.
The more Obama backs off, whines, cries and demeans this Nation, the more Iran and Co. build up. That almost insures an attack.
Hey Pilgrim, I have to disagree with you on one thing. I believe, without a doubt, would allow Israel to fall.
This brings us to Ms Thomas of the press corp ...who blurted out that Isreal should get out and the people go back to Poland, France and wherever they came from....for which she promptly apologized for.....which I don't agree with that she should have compromised her position, obviously she had thought this out before..it wasn't a blurt but her real feelings on the matter....
I think her age has caught up to her.

Helen Thomas was voicing her opinion, which at her point in life it seems she shouldn't have to worry about it. But as a so-called professional journalist, she has in the past tried hard to shape opinion and ridden on her longevity within the ranks of the Washington insiders. Nevertheless, journalist are part of the overall problem with the issue you brought up. With the proper press, Obama would not have been elected, but neither would have McCain made it through the primaries. The press is one sided and represents no one but their own self interest. They seemed to be the ones who vilified Israel right from the start with Gaza and the war but failed to tell the truth, this is happening with the Mexican question and the killing of the invader throwing rocks at federal officers - it is our "racist" immigration policies that caused the deaths of these people, not the Mexican government or the Mexican drug lords but the United States.
They echo the swill that Obama spews.
I watched the video of what she said and how she said it...she believed what she said...that wasn't the press corp talking....
