The Trump Card...

In the GOP Primary It's the Trump Show. Everyone Else is a Side Act

Years from now, this will astound historians. The Republican Party will have rejected all others to field a candidate who is twice impeached, criminally indicted four times, and wants to suspend the Constitution. This is a moment in history when millions are rallying behind Trump to replace constitutional democracy with an authoritarian strong man.
Assuming Trump goes on to win the nomination, objective historians will probably conclude that it was a result of excess and overreach by the Democrats and their willing accomplices in the mainstream media who relentlessly persecuted him with false accusations and investigations (Russia hoax), two sham impeachments, and unprecedented political legal persecution. They will note that the American public responded with a massive sympathy vote for someone unfairly harassed while being subjected to woke cultural and economic mandates that were contrary to traditional American values. They'll also note that Trump voters and conservatives in general were also harassed and persecuted by the government, which further motivated them to vote against the party in power.

The notion that Republicans and conservatives would rally behind someone who wants to replace the constitution and become a dictator is absurd. Neither of those assertions about Trump is true.
This would not be happening if millions have not lost hope in the American Dream.
Agreed. We have the Democrat party and their misguided cultural and economic policies to thank for that. Economic stagflation, rising violent crime, uncontrolled illegal immigration and cultural degradation.
This is less about Trump and more about the economic divide and the loss of the belief that people can prosper by merit and hard work.
Agreed - very much so.
Ironically, they see people like Trump change the tax laws to benefit the rich, and they seek out a strong man to right this perceived wrong.
This is a myth created by the Democrats and amplified by the mainstream media. Trump's tax cuts applied across the board, especially for the middle class.

"Income data published by the IRS clearly show that on average all income brackets benefited substantially from the Republicans' tax reform law, with the biggest beneficiaries being working and middle-income filers, not the top 1 percent, as so many Democrats have argued."

No this is about the Democrats and their destructive policies and failed economics.

Can Trump Comply?

Judge orders Trump and his attorneys to keep quiet about the evidence in the documents case. That's not a gag order but it prevents Trump from howling away in his usual fashion about certain topics. If he fails to keep his mouth shut about these topics, it's contempt of court. Violations of the protective order "may result in contempt of court or other civil or criminal sanctions," the judge's order said.

I give it a 50/50 probability that Trump's self-control will fail him and he'll find himself in trouble with the Court.

The interesting thing about this is when DOJ made a motion for this ruling, Trump's attorneys did not oppose it. It seems they agree it's a good idea for Trump to keep his mouth shut regarding this case.

Trump’s first term was for lower taxes and higher living wages for workers.
Gas and Inflation were low which helped lower income people.
Trump was for a secure border and stop squandering billions of dollars on foreign conflicts that aren’t in our national interest.
How is that Trump trashing the constitution and being an authoritarian strong-man?
It’s not.

I know this is a common refrain but it frustrates me because so many people miss an important piece, if not the most important piece, of the big picture. That piece is technology.

Assembly line welders and other workers have been replaced by robots. Bank tellers have been reduced in number by ATMs. Stockborkers have disappeared because of the internet. Lawyers are losing basic contract work to artificial intelligence apps. So too with radiologists and software developers. I could write several paragraphs about hot technology is reducing the need for human workers; and thus the value and meaning of work itself.

In my gym business, I'm eager to buy a robot that will clean the gym, thereby eliminating a human custodian and freeing other staff from their cleaning duties. In addition to the custodian, I may be able to reduce our staff by one when we account for all the cleaning hours we all put in. Better still, when I buy such a robot, I can rent it to my strip mall neighbors to clean their stores. The robot will thereby transform a labor expense into a revenue producing asset. It needs no day off or union to protect its rights. I won't have to make any special accommodations regarding the robot's religion, sexual preference, age, etc.

The only thing that keeps me from doing this now is the price. The robots exist. They need to come down in price a bit before it pays to buy one.
That has nothing to do with economic policies of either party or overseas labor competition or even illegal immigrants. This is a technology change and nothing more. And it's an avalanche bearing down on the entire country.

Have you read the indictment? I have. There is not a word in it about economics. The indictment charges Trump with crimes said to be committed by Trump.
What crime did he commit? Asking his lawyers hypotheticals on handling documents? That’s not a crime. He would have to give a direct order for obstruction.
Trump believed those records were his, per the 2012 Clinton “audio tapes sock drawer ruling. That goes against intent in the Espionage Act, which isn’t even supposed to be applied to Presidents and former Presidents. It was enacted for federal employees taking documents and putting them in foreign hands mostly. Presidential Records Act applies to Presidents. Everyone else, like Hillary( as SOS) and Biden( as Senator) handling of documents fall under the Federal Records Act. If anything, the Espionage Act would apply to them because they weren’t President.
Did you read the article Pilgrim posted? It pokes holes in a lot of the case, which is flimsy at best.

Trump is charged with 34 crimes, each of which is listed in the indictment. He enjoys the presumption of innocence until he is found guilty in a court of law. And guess where he is right now? In a court of law as this case proceeds. We're a year or two away from a jury verdict but we'll learn the answer to the guilty/not-guilty question in due course.

There will be hundreds if not thousands of articles like that in the months to come. They are meaningless regarding Trump's guilt or innocence. What matters is the case in court and ultimately, the jury verdict if the case makes it that far.

More than 50/50 that DOJ leaks about evidence in document case.

The indictment is not about the classified documents it is about trump being the opposition's party leader.....they need to block trump from running and this is the only way to do it.
Why do the Russian collusion investigation
The Ukraine call investigation
The Georgia vote investigation
The New York stormy Danielle payment investigation
The January 6th investigation
None of these are bi parisien investigations these are purely Democrat run.

I'll wait for the expected Jan 6 and Fulton County GA indictments to come out before saying more about Trump's desire to overthrow the Constitution. I expect those documents will provide a litany of evidence about that.

The only attempt at overthrowing is Trump’s 1st Amendment right to free speech.

The Best Friend DOJ Prosecutors Have is Donald Trump

Trump continues to make statements that work against his best interests. The most recent example is the interview he did with FOX News Bret Baier. About that interview,

"'Mr. Trump's lawyers had to be cringing during that interview, and DOJ lawyers were no doubt taking notes,' [national security attorney] Moss told Newsweek. 'Mr. Trump confessed to personally going through the boxes and had no explanation for why classified records from those boxes wound up in his personal desk. He placed himself at the scene of the retention and obstruction. This is the stuff of nightmares for a defense attorney.'"

"Legal scholar Jonathan Turley pointed out that Trump's comments could be used as evidence against him, saying the presidential hopeful discussed the criminal allegations 'in detail.'

"'Statements of this kind are generally admissible at trial,' he wrote ...
"(Source)

This is not the Democrats or DOJ working against Trump. This is Trump himself opening his mouth wide and inserting both feet. While he loves to talk, talk, talk about these matters, he does not seem to realize or does not seem to care that he is creating additional, admissible and devastating evidence that will almost certainly be used against him in court.

I imagine DOJ prosecutors have team members dedicated full time to monitoring Trump's posts, speeches and interviews. To them, Trump is the gift that keeps on giving.

Leftist Moss likes to push phony narratives about Trump.

Maybe so but that does not stop Trump from making what lawyers call "statements against interest" that will be used against Trump in court.
Got it. It’s only the DOJ that can leak to their usual “news” outlets about supposed details of the case to try to shape narratives.

Judge Cannon Sets Trump Trial Date and Location

The date is August 14, 2023, less than 2 months away. This is consistent with this court's "rocket docket."

The courthouse location is Ft. Pierce, FL.

With pretrial motions and several unresolved questions, it is expected that the trial itself will be pushed back by a year or more. Many commentators are suggesting the trial will not begin before the 2024 election is completed.

The location has interesting demographics regarding the jury pool. Ft. Pierce is in St. Lucie County.

"St. Lucie County, FL is Leaning conservative. In St. Lucie County, FL 48.8% of the people voted Democrat in the last presidential election, 50.4% voted for the Republican Party, and the remaining 0.8% voted Independent.

"In the last Presidential election, St. Lucie county remained narrowly Republican, 50.4% to 48.8%."
