Well no wonder I didn't see it - I was studying Linder's tagline, lol.
Now I have to wonder what other subliminal messages they've incorporated in their various ads & literature.....like maybe: "You are feeling an overpowering urge to ship something immediately - go to the phone & call FedEx! Right now!!" ;)

Actually, I've worked in several places with high security, so it wouldn't seem strange to me. Many had armed guards, key card/photo ID access only. It's becoming very common in any place that deals with government, utility companies, records offices, transportation etc. I worked thru a couple temp agencies for a while, and with all the nutcases out there, security is getting tighter. Some buildings even lunch pails and brief cases are x-ray'd.

This is just the reality of the corporate world. If you've been out of it for a while, you'd be shocked at what is "normal". . .some places you'd swear you're going thru airport security just to go to or leave work LOL.

welcome to reality post 911.

I understand having a buliding locked down for many reason. The safety of the people that work their is one. With 911 things have changed and the goverment asks carriers what kind of safety plan do they have in place. The point I was making Panther has a very nice building AWAY from the home office. Drivers and owners can go to building relax and shoot the bull and take a shower if need be. It was thought out and shows they care about their driver and its just an extra perk.

Well Greg that is a new one losing our log books soon what in the world does that mean?

Linda in the year 2012 all carriers have to be on the paper less logs system that is why Gregg said that. Paper less logs are very good and you will like them Linda when FedEx rolls them out.

I've read a few posts here over the years that illustrate why dispatchers feel safer behind bulletproof glass....Can't say as I blame them.

Yea there have been some Crazy people on here over the years. If someone got to that point and felt that way, they should just leave the company they are with. Life is to short for Crazy stuff like that.

I understand about government offices, jails, hydro companies, that type of thing.. where the PUBLIC may go wrangy and take out their frustrations/anger on the employees..
But how many companies need to be under lock from their own employees so to speak?
To me, it really says something.

You guys FedEx Custom Critical is a huge office not just a few dispatchers sitting around doing their jobs. It is a big business with what I would imagine to be over 500 people working there and that does not include the upper floor which is another division of FedEx. What is the big deal with having an escort take you around the building and if your time permits buy you a really nice lunch or breakfast in the cafeteria?
The truck parking lot is enough to handle people attending orientation, being t-val tested, extending their leases and a few spaces for visiting trucks. There is a TA truck stop just down the road that has showers, lounge and laundry room and I do admit the TA is not a nice place but it does have the facilities and the parking that is needed.

Dave did bring up a good point in that Panther operates two buildings at the Seville location. A driver can visit both without a problem. That is something I like about Panther. One doesn't have to go through numerous people to unlock a secret.
Additionally, when Panther has a event or meeting in where they can't park numerous trucks, they hire a limo service that runs back and forth to pick up drivers from the TA or Pilot.

My carrier loves me more than your carrier loves you! And I don't have to prove it ... because I feel it. So what if your carrier has a washing machine? I FEEL the love.

So there! :p

No, wait. There is more.

If your say your carrier loves you double, then my carrier loves me tripple and quadruple, and, and, and a GAZILLION times more.

So there! :p

Are you jealous Phil?

Sounds more like something from the 3rd grade class you may be sending a postcard to.

Panther does have the second building, which I think was the building until they outgrew it, and it is nice they offer the shower and a set of laundry machines in there. Other than that breakroom for the orientation bunch and the dispatch room the rest of the place is off limits without an escort so it's not much different than FedEx or Express-1 where you can't get in without being admitted.

That is true. You can go to the main building and walk up and visit everyone in dispatch. You can't however just walk to Andy Clarke's office and walk in.

My point exactly! Sorry if you did not get the joke.

I can't believe the childish tone of this thread. My carrier has a driver's lounge, therefore I am respected more? Give me a break. Are you working a business or playing in a sandbox?

Look, when Diane and I got into expediting it was not because we wanted to become the teacher's pet, be respected by our carrier or be treated like family. We outgrew our teachers years ago, respect ourselves, and already have families.

We got into expediting to achieve certain business and personal goals and selected the carrier we believe can best make it possible to achieve them. We don't need our carrier to help us feel good. We need our carrier to BE good so that we can maintain a profitable and professional relationship with them.

Whether a carrier has a driver's lounge at its headquarters would not even be considered if we initiated a new carrier selection process. What does it matter? It's not about a lounge. It's about the money.

Your right Phil.
I don't think Dave or one of your former fleet owners switched because Panther has a nice lounge, showers, and free laundry.
In Dave's case he can go home and have all of that.

Phil this thread was not a my new carrier is better than yours thread. Or in any way shape or form someone, namely Bruno bragging about anything. It was started as a thank you to FedEx for the years he was there and is still there with some trucks. It later turned into just a few comments about how he feels Panther is a little different. Having been at FedEx for 10yrs myself and even been in white glove for 3 of those yrs, I can agree with Bruno on this one though. In the 10 years we were at FedEx they never once said good morning or afternoon. Or remembered a birthday or anniversary or anything. It's not just the break room for driver's with the showers and laundry facilities, it's the simple things they do to make you feel like you are aprreciated and that your job out there means something to them. I do believe that is all Bruno was trying to get across.

Phil

What are you talking about, because someone gives thanks to a carrier other than FedEx it is Childish. Your wrong Phil and you know it, for saying something like that. I have sat back and read your BS about how great you are and your million dollar plan. I have never bashed you one darn time. Talking about a teacher pet, you have done your fare share of butt kissing with FedEx. So don't come on here saying things like that. I think you should step down from being a Field Editor with EO if your going to post childish things like you just did.

Then, bernie48, there is a difference between me and Bruno and you. Sure, it is nice to be recognized for a job well done. But it is more important to me to do the job well without regard to emotional strokes received or not received.

Some people may disagree, and since we are talking personal preferences here, I won't argue; but I actually like it that our carrier treats us more like a number than individuals. Our carrier has a job to do, and so do we. I don't care if they know my name. I don't care if they forget my birthday. I don't care if they say thank you after we complete a run.

I care deeply that my carrier is as professional, reliable and agressive as can be in the marketplace. They don't need to know my name to be that, and that suits me just fine. I'm not there to get emotional strokes. I'm there to haul freight and bring my very best to the mutual effort to serve our customers.

Well then you certainly found the right carrier for that job. Just don't come crying to us when they forget your number as they filter out the CC siide of things. It's always a business attitude with you Phil. Why can't you let your hair down and relax and enjoy things out here? Enjoy the good and positive things in life.
