Panther Sitting at Truck Stops

Newtothis, you should be at LEAM if you want to see how the real world works when t comes to favorites, you have to earn the best paying loads. Here you have to take crap loads from some of the best agents to get better loads. You have to prove yourself here and it takes a while.

I've only been doing this 8 months and I'm still learning when the slow months are, where the freight lanes are and I do deadhead more then most, but I go with the flow while getting a agent list to keep me loaded. I do loads I don't like every now and then just to get in better with some agents, plus get some money for the week.

On the Landstar carrier group side, the big truck side and I was a million miler over there at Ranger, on the expedited side I'm a noob relearning how to run freight. I'm loving every second of this job again.

Now CD, I remember passing you one night on I40 and you were running maybe 60 so u should be getting 21mpg,lol. PS, that old dodge I was in usually eeked out 15 with a tailwind, shes now grazing in the yard in Cookeville tn.

LOL, yea when you passed me i was on a long run tto i believe Laredo..Had time to spare so it was just a "cruise night", but LOL..no where near 21...the best i have seen is a little over 15 mpg 1 time with a tailwind comin out of Okla....

I was just in Cookeville Tn last week...:)

Took paid EM yesterday and turned down a mini (if you can call it one) 43 DH for a 32 mile run. I'll learn, but cheesecakes would come in handy! I'd like one myself

Make sure you didn't get dinged for a refusal. 40% or more deadhead shouldn't be counted as a refusal.

Thank you and I guess I should clarify ... It's cut "her" some slack. Have not really added gender to my profile.

I thought you were some guy named Newt. Kinda like MRSNAPPY. For years I thought he was Mrs. Nappy. Then one day he got his period and became MR.SNAPPY. Girls will be boys and boys will be girls. It's a mixed up muddled up shook up world except for Lola.

Ill watch for that but haven't gotten dinged yet, I turn down about one a week that is either 40% DH or more 8 hours in advance in combination with the DH or some other reason they have in place.

LOL. Problem is after a few years I'll need to change this name until then I'm kind of incognito

I don't know how a solo cargo van driver can make money with Panther this days.... I give an example. Last week ,available in Atlanta GA ,no refusal first load in Alabama ,second in Pensacola FL. From Fl deadhead back in Atlanta. Total miles for the week 420. This week (no refusal) one load in Alabama 180 miles. The van was close to Atlanta so deadhead back in ATL. Number 12 from 18 vans.. What is next? Waiting 2-3 days for an under 200 miles run? Or if I have a HUGE luck get a 6-700 miles run and SWAP after 2-300 miles? Now don't tell me that i'm in a wrong spot for loads, you cant be in MI or Chicago all the times. also I cant relocate 7-800 miles with this fuel price just to be number 15 on a board. Four ,fives months ago Panther had a 1000 bonus to sign up new vans. I ask them why they do this because Panther has way to many vans than loads. The answer was that they will have some new customers... BS. They have 10 vans in Lexington ,9 in Dallas TX , 15(!) in Atlanta GA....I curious if any solo van driver with Panther can make money in this conditions.

Zoli, instead of driving back to Atlanta to sit and wait on an overcrowded board why not just smash your hand with a hammer after you deliver. The results will be slightly different but you will sure save money on fuel.

I think Moot is making money....Well he does have that "Pink Wheel Chock Teething Toy" business on the side...And the other money he was making, well the FED's weren't real "high" on ..."MOOT BUCKS"....

Appears Zoli likes big boards....instead of playing closest truck...does Panther supply hammers?

Please tell me a board what is not overcrowded. And I'm going now. But dont tell me Chicago or New Jersey...Trust I know the business I'm with Panther since 08 but now...it is harder than ever...

Zoli..I know you've been with Panther for what may seem like forever...it appears to be ever changing.....you should know to getaway from the crowds and work the fringes...

Think I would go with the Moot mousetrap. Get a hammer or stay away from the large van crowds.
Or......go to straight or TT where very few boards have a lot of trucks.

OK , I was going to stayaway from this, but since you said it....you have been doing this with Panther for 8 yrs...if you haven't gotten yourself in a position financially by now that you could afford , what..$300 bucks a month in gas / fuel cost to relocate yourself to the fringe areas away from "all the other vans on any given board"...then you ain't doin something right....8 yrs and you still haven't figured the system out????

You right ,but the the question was for vans...OVM you right also :). It is just frustrating.Expediting changed a lot in the last 2-3 years. Prices went up, the rates went down...When I start this ,the rate was 85 cents per mile plus FS ,the gas was 1,45. Now....70-77 cents per miles fuel 3,8 ,tires prices up, food prices up etc. ....Hard times.

It is not about that I don't have money to relocate. I have. The point is that even if you relocate you still dont have a chance NOW with Panther to get a decent week. You not with Panther so you have a different situation. Trust me I know what I talking about. Yes ,you will tell change company ,go with ST but this was not my question. All the Panther boards are overcrowded...Thanks for your answer.

You may have to seriously consider saying good bye to Panther....you and them are getting further apart...one can only cope with the "stupid" for so long.....

It doesn't matter how smart or dumb you are, being in the right place at the right time trumps everything. And being in the same parking lot as 19 other Panther vans isn't the right place or the right time, unless you're in orientation.

Well put.
