Then I SHOULD have the RIGHT to refrain from paying for it. We are either free, or we are not. MY kids had the RIGHT to pray, where ever, when ever, they wanted. NO ONE has the right, or, authority to deny the free practice of religion. This is NOT the Soviet Union, yet.

Don't worry, many of the freedoms YOU hold dear, will go the same way, wonder what you will say then, after all, "it's the law".

What takes place in a school should ONLY be determined by a majority of the adults who have children IN those schools, and those who are FORCED to pay for it, whether they want to, or not, or believe in what is being taught there, or not, and over which, right now, they have ZERO control, since government has usurped their rights, with mandates.

So GIVE IN? SMOOTH MOVE THAT IS!

Tell me WHY I should be FORCED to pay to semi-educate YOUR kids? I have NO say over the money that the State of Michigan TAKES from me, against my will, and GIVES to your kids. To teach them a bunch of watered down fluff and build up their self-esteem?

And what happens if I DON'T hand over this money? I lose my house and could very well be attacked by SWAT teams when I refuse to vacate my house. GOOD PLAN! Talk about a pizzing match.

IF I don't have equal say as to what IS, or, is NOT taught, when MY hard earned wages are being TAKEN from me, whether I want them taken or not, then why should I follow YOUR law, that DEMANDS that I fund what I don't agree with?

YOU may like living in a dictatorship, but I sure as heck HATE IT!

If a conservative doesn't believe in (insert whatever it is, in this case prayer) he just doesn't participate. If a liberal doesn't believe in (insert whatever it is, in this case prayer) he makes a big to do about it and yells for laws to ban it.

Not the same as when YOU take MY hard earned money, BY FORCE, and use it in ways I don't believe it. Which is EXACTLY what you are doing.

I say, ELIMINATE public schools. They have just turned into indoctrination camps for the all powerful, all controlling government. Let each parent with children pay 100% of the cost of educating their children, in ANY way they see fit. IF the CHOOSE to join together, with similar minded parents, that's fine, as long as the cost, and control, is borne solely by the parents.

THEN,

This argument would end.

I have a solution to the ongoing prayer debate. We should not only allow, but insist on prayer in schools. Zen Buddhist prayer.

They seem like a pretty peaceful bunch - they keep the body count pretty low, don't they?

I can't imagine why a Christian parent would object to their kid being exposed to the teachings of the Buddha day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day. It's not like it would permeate his thinking or anything.

No I did not.

I say the BEST, and most equatable way to end this problem is to do away, 100% away, with public schools. How children are raised, and taught, is solely the responsibility, and the right, of the parents who choose to have them. THEN, government would NOT be forcing THEIR ideas on kids, and other people could not use the rule of law to force parents to educate their kids in ways, and in subject matter, that they are opposed to. Then, there is no argument.

Seems like a simple solution. No prayers or anything religious in public schools. Parents can pay a private school and get reimbursed for what they would send to a public one.
Umm....wonder what would happen to public schools?

Just skip the public schools altogether. Then the government would not have to reimburse anything. THAT would REALLY water down the government's power, which surely needs done.
