Chef..I just wished you have a disclaimer for the newbees that it is not that easy in this biz..they read your posts and think it is so easy without knowing exactly why you and others are so busy...like your carrier working with low operating costs to be able to outbid other carriers and other finer details of what we do...
That is one reason I quit posting so much of where and what I am doing....
Any newbie or anyone else reading here that takes enough time to do the research will quickly realize that no one is going to make money and that this is not "easy" if they don't want to work at it.
I get PM's from people that are thinking about this for a job and i get PM's and calls from people already in the business, some longer then me some not as long asking how i get the runs i do and if i am making any money because everyone knows Bolt has nothing but "cheap freight".... There are people at Bolt that have called me and there are people with Bolt that are there because of my post...the number of drivers they have hired since I came on with them, hasn't hurt me one bit....but then again, Bolt isn't goning to put 300-500 vans in their fleet either.....
I just posted the loads and miles for so far this week, what i didn't post was the money i made, because it is really no ones business, but i will say that this week is avg for what i have been doing this year. As for pay per loaded miles, I'll tell and show anyone my Fleetvision pay screen. This week as i said is in line with what all of this year has been so far and that is $.82 per loaded mile including FSC.....I believe that is inline with most everyone else using CV's.....
I can't speak to Bolts overhead, i just lease to them, but i like anyone else can figure its less then the "BIG BOY'S". Now as to them bidding low to get freight, thats fine with me as long as they are continuing to pay me as they are....oh and you know as well as i do that there are other Bolt drivers getting the same kind of runs and numbers i am.
So, no its not easy, but it certainly isn't the direr straights some try to make it out to be. Is it the $1.20 a mile for CV's it was yrs ago? Nope, but I didn't work in this industry back then, and my expectations weren't that high, and I certainly don't need to make that, but then again, i am not trying to support a household on this income either....We each have different needs from whatever we do. All i ask is that the business pays for itself and i make s few estra bucks...i was told 2 yrs ago that that wouldn't happen, it was BS then and it is BS now...anyone that wants to set themselves up right and work at it can make money doing this...easy? No. Hard, No...but you have to work at it.....
As to the disclaimer, if they can't figure out that i don't sit still and simply wait for dispatch to be kind to me just by reading the number of runs i am getting and how often I move to better freight area's on my own, then they aren't paying attention....and a disclaimer wouldn't make any difference....
