Locking Gas Cap

The Manufacturer of the Honda EU3000is does not have a Locking Gas Cap for this Generator. Is there anyone who has one, or knows were I can find one?

Probably not one available..........Nor will there probably ever be one Available.

Technical Specs for the Honda EU3000iS*

Engine

Engine Brand Honda GX200
Displacement(cc) 196cc
Starting System Electric with recoil backup
Fuel Capacity 3.4 gallons

Not really worth the $$$$ to Develop & Manufacture a $15-$20 Locking Gas Cap to "Secure" $10-$12 worth of Gas....................

Did I ask for negative comments?

Well.......Considering I did a GOOGLE Search seeking an answer to your question..........and found other people had asked the same question before...........the only Negative thing to come about is your negative attitude regarding my personal intuition on why there may not be a Locking Gas Cap to your Generator...........

And for that..........Guess I apologize....................NOT!! :p

It's more likely to happen in campgrounds to people who have those big loud azz generators, where the first time someone just shuts it off, but the second time people have been known to dump sugar, sand, soda, water, all sorts of things into the tank. But it also happens to the quiet generators, as well. The end result is way more than $10-$12 worth of gas.

To the OP, as for the negative comments that you so dearly did not want, the only answer to your question is a negative one, that being, "no." Sorry.

One thing you can do is fabricate a two-piece bracket that secures to the body on either side of the cap with hinges, secured with rivets, and then the two pieces fold up to meet each other on top of the cap, where a small padlock can secure to the two pieces. That would certainly discourage all but the most determined of vandals.

And this right here shows that Van ALSO did the same search.........cause this is really the Only Answer that has been brought forth on WHY one would need a Locking Gas Cap for 3 gallons of fuel.

.....according to a couple of answers out there........NO ONE could really ever come up with an Incident / Example showing anyone HAD EVER had sugar / dirt poured into their "Generators" fuel tank.

Simple Question........Simple Answers..........Questions and Answers that one could find out for themselves, instead of asking about it on a Truckers Board...........

But...........Life can be Difficult for some out there that make it difficult themselves............

.....and for that..............I Apologize......................NOT!! :p :p

Yeah, but, no one asked that question.

Your "a couple of answers" is a severely limited sample size. Go talk to people who own or work at RV places, or small engine repair places. Go hang out at RV forums (that's actually a particularly good idea in your case). Go talk to the guy who used to be with Nations Express who woke up in the middle of the night in Kenly, NC to find someone had dumped a cola in his tank. It happens. Like I said, it happens more often at campgrounds to people with loud generators, but it's not exclusive to those circumstances.

Ironic isn't it, that the very first reply came from a non-trucker, and was an answer to a question that wasn't even asked.

While others go out of their way to make life difficult for others.

Invent something. It's already been suggested, but since in this case there doesn't appear to be a store-bought answer to the question that's what you'll have to do. Head to the hardware store, buy some strapping material, a few nuts and bolts-- I have an idea that castellated nuts and cotter pins are in order here-- and go to it. It shouldn't take long to come up with a device that makes it hard-- if not impossible-- to get the cap off and either steal gas or put foreign stuff in.

One reason you might have trouble finding locking gas caps for this-- limited market. There's not an awful lot of generators out there, and after you figure the costs involved and the lack of a large market--- you'd have to price the caps prohibitively expensive just to recoup the costs. No one would buy them at the price they'd have to sell for.

As they say though, where there's a will there's relatives, so if you need it bad enough you can engineer something that'll work.

Special side note: My experience with Honda is limited, but the idea of a noisy Honda anything--- nope, not gonna happen. Those machines tend to be real quiet. My landlord has a couple of Honda motorcycles, and unless you see him riding the things you won't know he's coming or going on them. I've heard a couple of Honda generators too, and if one of those start making noise it's time to turn it off and find out why.

Mjmsprt40, that was quite inspiring. Really. I almost want to go buy this generator just so I can accept your challenge!! If my wife and kids allowed me more free time I'd have all kinds of gadgets put together around here. :)!!

I know a landscaper that carries four gas cans on his trailer. People used to steal one occasionally while he was parked somewhere. He wrote on each can. "One of these cans contains gas with sugar. Steal at your own risk".
He hasn't had a can stolen since.

I did a "Search" for Sugar in Generator Gas Tanks.....Fuel Tanks......Campgrounds.........plus a few other Key Words.....ONLY thing I found was that "Fiction" story from that Blogger who was Chased out of a Campground reaching speeds of 100MPH by the "Rednecks" who were blaring Rock Music and setting off Fireworks at 3:30 in the Morning............

I believe I know how to "SEARCH" for answers........

I read, and am a Member of SEVERAL RV / Campground Discussion Boards....I have WORKED in that Industry delivering Campers to Dealerships for quite a while......Campers messing with OTHER Campers IS NOT that much of a Problem............or at least it's NOT as much of a bigger deal than you just tried to portray it as.

"Non-Trucker" comment that made a couple of wanna be truckers Laugh.............

I'd appreciate it if you would keep comments like that to yourself until YOU actually Keep a Log Book, go through weigh stations, Pass / Fail a couple of Level Onesees, Twosee, and Threesees, have to come off the Road after 11 Hours of Driving, sit somewhere "Loaded" for 34 Hours straight to re-set your hours, and so on............and so on...............and so on.

Until that Happens...............and you get a good 10 years and 750K miles under your Belt doing just that above..............your "Non-Trucker" Comments directed AT ME from YOU is one the biggest Jokes going on here on this "Truckers" related Discussion Board.

Good for you. But if you want to actually learn something, go talk to people who repair and replace the small engines in generators because the tanks have been vandalized.

I believe you do, too.

I didn't try to portray it as anything other than "it happens." No, campers messing with campers isn't much of a problem. It's rather rare. It generally only happens in campgrounds when someone persistently uses one of the louder generators. On the other hand, expediters, especially moron van drivers, messing with other expediters, happens more frequently than you might think. Still, securing the portable generator against theft is the most obvious thing to guard against, rather than securing the tank against vandalism.

I've got more than 850,000 expediting miles under my 11-year belt, ALL of them with a CDL with a HAZMAT endorsement. I regularly haul HAZMAT which requires placarding, keep an accurate and legal logbook and go through weigh stations, and have never failed any inspection. What else ya got?
