So if TJP got two loads on the way to laredo and then sits for a week and gets another load back out. That would amount to a really good three weeks. Well over 1k per each week and y'all got to have a weeks worth of partying. You can't beat that.

Laredo isn't where I sit,my loads to Laredo, you most likely will find my next stop in Houston,as in a tractor,Houston is a great spot for me,with saying that,my last load in Laredo,we delivered early as I didnt think customer would be open on Saturday,we delivered Friday night, then we got a Laredo pick up for that Saturday, going all the way to Harrisburg Pa.My plan was being in Houston Saturday morning, but the Laredo load change my mind.
Couple months later we did a Laredo run, delivered Friday morning, then dead headed to Houston ,where we loaded Friday night and went to Baltimore Md.In both senarios, pay weeks were excellant

Well. I had a miserable week. Got the run to Albion, IN, then got the mini from Wheaton, Il. to Bolingbrook, IL. then got a run from Batavia, Il to Bowling Green, KY. No promise of getting a load anytime soon on the Nashville board, so I am headed south for home...Gonna take care of my taxes and give my van a good cleaning.

Drove up to the NAIAS in Detroit, had fun and drove back down I 75 waved as I drove through Monroe, MI and ended up at the Spaghetti Warehouse in Toledo where I had a nice Lunch/Dinner and then back to beautiful Harlan, IN
What a nice day.
At the show while waiting to get into parking garage I was handed a brochure by UAW worker stating how Toyota is screwing the American workers. I was driving a Scion(Toyota) BTW, very ironic LOL:)

When I was with panther I once deadheaded from Memphis TN all the way to California. I got two 300 mile loads along the way that paid my fuel home, then I got loaded 2 days later on a sunday going all the way back out to shreveport Lousiana. Then got a load from Shreveport all the way down to Michigan. Sometimes deadheading can take you out of a bad loop and set you up for a good week or two. I hope you get a load out of FL Gator, my other panther friend gets loads out of Orlando all of the time.

In a sense, that is true. But what was your total pay for ALL MILES traveled during that time? That is what I look at.Deadheading can put a person in the negative real quick if they are not careful. So can sitting waiting for a load, but if done corectly, costs for sitting can be minimal.

Awile ago I had a freind in a s/t that was in El Paso, and he deadheaded to L.A (california) to wait for a load.Pure stupidity in my eyes, but he ended up getting a load for $1.00 a mile to Mi from there. His total pay was somewhere at .62 cpm for all miles traveled during that time.So I am guessing he was in the negative the whole time giving the expenses/estimated cost per mile to move the average straight truck. Not very smart thinking.

May I suggest "Red Storm Rising" By Tom Clancey. To me it was his best.

Another consideration is that a long deadhead more than likely has a longer time to pickup. Long time to pickup gets the added risk of the shipper changing their mind and turning the load into a dry run.

I stopped yesterday at the TA at Vero Beach, FL./I-95 exit
where two CV's were parked...one panther, one Landstar. I wanted to shoot the breeze, but didn't find either driver. Any of you there at that time? I was curious if they got loads to that area, and what their experience was on getting out of Fl. I usually dead-headed to Atlanta or Greenville rather than wait for rare freight heading north.

Yea, but he was deadheading to relocate, not to get a load.Figure on top of that, the miles he is paying fuel taxes on, plus wear and tear, using miles up in a oil change interval.Doesnt make much sense...I'm just sayin'
