Feedback: LDB's Experimental thread

Put the fúcking locations only thread in the Layover Forum and be done with this nonsense!
I don't know if it's such a good idea for EO to pick up the slack from Craigslist.

I'm sure this is a little off topic and a bit obvious, but I don't think I'd be a moderator for love or money. Nope .. nada .. uh uh .. no way.

So now they lock the original location thread and force us to use the new one by default? Seems like if some members want one thing they get it but if other members don't mind extra banter tuff luck... wondering who the "perfect" ones are now?

What thread is locked?

Off topic? Kewl. Let's talk baseball. You know how in Major League Baseball where the best umpires are the ones you don't even know who they are, beyond that of routine introductions? And the ones who's names keep getting mentioned are the ones who keep blowing the calls? :D

It seems you are not reading what people are saying. You have placed yourself in charge of what banter is and what stays and goes....For someone who posts against government control on a regular basis you seem to be practicing that very thing by deleting posts you deem do not fit.

If someone in our free country (such as it is these days) wants to buy up a bunch of land, develop a gated community, and then require the residents who buy into the community to abide by the rules established therein, the developer has every right to do so, every right to expect the rules to be obeyed, and every right to enforce them.

Diane and I own a house in a gated community. We love it because the rules serve a useful purpose and provide benefits that are not available in non-gated communities. We give up certain freedoms when we pass through the gate but willingly make the trade for the benefits derived.

If a moderator in this open forum (such as it is these days) wants to set up an experimental or permanent thread and then require the participants who buy into the thread to abide by the rules established therein, the moderator has every right to do so, every right to expect the rules to be obeyed, and every right to enforce them, I believe.

A specific-rules thread in the Open Forum does not undermine the freedom of all Open Forum members any more than a gated community undermines the freedom of of all citizens. Thread participants have the freedom to opt in or out, just as gated community members do.

It would seem that rules are ONLY meant for the OTHER guy!! It is not hard to follow a few easy, basic rules, that are in place only to keep these forums comfortable for the majority of those who use them.

here is really NO valid reason to use misspelled words that mean other things just to do it. It is well known that the use of certain kinds of words offend some people. Just don't do it. The argument that "we are all adults here" is silly. There is just no need for the "faux cussing" and personal ridicule. THAT is NOT how civil adults act.

Common courtesy is the lubricate that allows everything to run smoothly. Let's all make an effort to practice it.

Not really a good analogy, tho, at least on the thread level. EO is not a gated community. Anyone who wants to, can come and visit (except Doug, of course, he has to sneak over the fence wearing a disguise). But the individual forums are the gated communities of EOtown, where certain rules and regulations must be agreed to before any active participation. And there are many forums here, each with their own set of topics, rules and regulations.

The rules of each forum (gated community) are already pre-established right there on the headers of each forum, and by entering those forums (gated communities) you have already agreed to abide by those rules.

Once you get into individual threads (your front yard within the gated community), as long as whatever gets posted doesn't violate the Code of Conduct or the rules and regulations of the forum in question, then your conduct on your property cannot be controlled any further than the rules already established.

The next level in the gated community is where you go inside your house and exchange a few PM's. (suddenly that sounds dirty).

The only way to control something like this is to start a new gated community, like the carrier forums, where admission is granted only to those who agree to a new, more restrictive subset of rules and regulations within the larger community.

Your analogy is more refined than mine. I would like to see a "gated" locations thread or forum, as an experiment at least if not as a permanent EO feature.

As previously stated, I think a Locations-Only thread is a good idea, but I also think it can and will develop on its own into exactly that, where locations alone will be posted and the chit-chat will not happen very often. The current Locations-Only thread is developing quite nicely into just that.

Boy oh boy! If I only had the problems you people do to argue about banter or no banter. All of you need to go back re-read your comments and listen to yourselves.

Try looking at this from an outsiders eyes. If I was a first time visiter to EO you bet it would be my last visit here. Obviously some people have to much time on their hands. Try using the time you have wasted arguing ( for lack of a better term ) and do something positive with it. Call a family member, polish your truck, watch the grass grow, go for a walk.

Point I am trying to make is that there is FAR to many other serious problems in life to worry about than this type of BANTER! Life is to short. ( remember Jerry in the sprinter ) It changes in a split second. Live it to the best and find positive things to do with your time. Even if your stuck in a truck stop for a long holiday weekend. There are still many positive things that you can do! Cmon everyone lets get back to what this site is really all about!

Some of you will bash me for what I have said and thats fine. But deep down whether you want to admit it or not you know I am right about what I have said! You people are ALL better than this! :)

If you asked 100 members what this site is really all about, I think you would get a number of answers. Lawrence's answer would be the on of greatest interest to me. I'd also be interested to learn what you think this site is really all about.

Actually, don't answer that here. I'll start a new topic: What is EO All About?

Why would anyone bash you for your opinion? Just because I don't happen to agree to some of your opinion..well that is just life..:)

Many different members here hold EO up to many different standards...and that is where this and many more issues arise...
