I don't need to name any specific names. I'm sure the perfect ones know who they are since they're perfect and therefore qualified to judge all the rest of us.
It seems you are not reading what people are saying. You have placed yourself in charge of what banter is and what stays and goes.. strike 1. You have decided your the one who decides what how much extra is allowed in the post and how far it can go... strike two. All the extra "banter" gets old but big deal it takes mere moments to scroll through it and find the next useful post. Now you have created a solution that as I stated before makes people post in two separate threads and read two threads if they want to make sure they do not miss someones local. In other words your solution is more time consuming not less. For someone who posts against government control on a regular basis you seem to be practicing that very thing by deleting posts you deem do not fit.
That's surely something that was to be expected, though. I certainly did. But I also expected, and still do, that just as with any troll, once the novelty of disruption wore off and they see they don't get a rise out of people over it, they will quietly leave or begin posting in a manner that the tread was designed for.
The history of posting on these very forums should give you a very clear indication of how this thread will evolve, or die. Look at the Truck Talk Forum as an example. Initially there was quite a bit of non-truck related banter, but it quickly settled down to be a place primarily for truck-related discussions. Sure, every now and then something unrelated gets posted, but it generally has a very short life, or gets moved to a more appropriate forum. It's not the most popular forum, but it serves a purpose for the community and is generally used appropriately. And because it is used, and used appropriately, it lives on. There are other forums that are barely used, or visited, and if they were deleted not many people would even notice. A Locations-Only thread would have the same fate, either get used and get used appropriately, or die a quiet death.

Outside of our star expediter, no one I know comes close and he is slipping by mocking others.
I am not b*tching, moaning or groaning, that's reserved for others it seems like.
I offered a few solutions which are based on solid experience, I made a case for not being anal about what's posted and even wrote out a step by step plan to help others with their problems seeing posts in some threads. BUT I am the villain.
But alas, I am the villain (among others), I am the one who has the flapping keyboard (actually shouldn't that be bouncing keyboard?) and I am the one who was the most vocal.
Maybe I misunderstood the real purpose of all of this but like others pointed out a LOT, it seems to be trivial at best.

Experience tells me two things, one is that regardless what you do, you will not control content in an open forum. The only way you can assure that the 'right' information is posted is actually approving every single post and that my good friend is a real PIA. The other is that once you don't keep up on moderating threads, and start making others to replace the ones out of control, then it is a free for all on other parts of the site.
It is that last part you failed to see, even after 60 something posts.
This thread is the result of all of this mess and it is active because people try to defend concepts and opinions without actual seeing activity from the mods. If you were not so defensive and taking things so personal, like my open opposition yesterday, you may get to understand what's actually going on.

Well, I certainly didn't call it yours, but you sure took on the responsibility of heavy-handed control as if it were. Plus, is it the "members at large" who want this? What are the percentages? "Members at large" implies an overwhelming majority rather than a nifty idea by a few people whom you happen to agree with. If the "members at large" really and truly want it, it'll happen, and it'll happen without having to delete off-topic threads.
I gather you aren't talking to me, because I've done exactly that, albeit probably not the perfect solution that would please all of the people all of the time. And I'll never complain about anything without offering up a solution or at least an alternative suggestion.
I've offered up the most workable solution I can think of. I can offer up another solution that you and a few others would be just all giddy about, but the "members at large" would find it offensive and deplorable. Wanna hear it?

Yup. To date, other than as paid online tech support, I haven't come across a single thread that I have been forced to open and read.
