Picked up Thursday in Kentucky to Laredo and what a drive it was.
After making my pickup I hit the road and all was going good and was looking forward to some warm weather. About 10:30 that night I stopped to fuel up in West Memphis and headed west. I was noticing some trucks still in the median and thinking to myself that must have been a heck of a mess the prior night. Maybe 20 miles out of town I noticed brakes lights lighting up on trailers a few hundred yards ahead so with lots of space to work with I tapped the brake a few times to warn anyone behind me and lifted my foot of the gas peddle. Then I suddenly see two cars appear out from hiding from in front of the semi ahead of me and they are both spinning their way into the median.
Then it began, a long slow trip all the way to Little Rock. Both west bound lanes were ice covered and not a smooth ice either but a chunked up mess that could make your kidneys feel like they had been in a prize fight. Got to the point where not a soul was in the right lane, all single file down the left lane. I have never seen so many trucks parked on ramps, shoulders and every where else in my life. It would be no exaggeration to say there were at minimum a thousand trucks parked on those shoulder and ramps. It was not scary nor did it seem dangerous as most times the speed was between 5 - 10mph or completely stopped, just a long slow grind. 6 hours later I finally hit clean road at mile marker 116 on I30 west of Little Rock. I was feeling kind of bad about how long it took until I got to Laredo and talked to another Load1 driver who had come through Thursday during the day and he said it took him 8 1/2 hours for the same stretch!
Yeah Floral City where I used to live is like that with the moss...Then moved to Inverness but now back in Ohio. I may be running down there in the car in a couple of weeks to take a fender for a 1990 buick reaulta for family member. Hope it stays warm...Last time I was down there the Jacksonville Jaguars hosted the coldest game in their history and Miami didn't get out of the 50's.
At Wally's World in the City of Countryside,IL.(Chicago)
I was slugging my way through that same ice Wednesday night from Suwanee GA to Bowling Green KY, and back again Thursday morning. Hot round tripper for AT&T Uverse..... nice getting $2 a mile both ways, hardly ever get "hazard pay"...
I65 was a complete mess, vehciles sliding all over the place but my new BFG Radial Long Trail T/A tires worked a treat and I didn't have to throw the chains at all. I was cruising the ice fields at a steady 40-45 MPH and there was no shortage of idiot drivers literally flying past me only to find themselves facing the wrong way in the median or over the side at the next yard stick.
It was an adventurous and well paid ride for me.
fired at you from my Droideka
Hey Zed,
what company in Suwanee, My dad's warehouse was located up there Komatsu. They're not there anymore, relocated to Ripley, TN I think Hitachi took over the warehouse now. During one summer on break from college I worked in Mercury Marine's parts warehouse. Knew the DC manager of the OKI Telecom facility there too.
So I was given the ultimatum by my mom...Don't return home unless I bring Chocolate....lol. I sure hope that something in Hershey is open today besides Walmart. Ive gotta DH back home so that I can get measured for a vest for my brothers wedding. Gotta do this by Wednesday. It would be nice if I could get this done without having to DH back to the house.

That does NOT sound good!
I have to say it could have been worse. The problem appeared in the J parking lot, found someone in Laredo to fix it and the part should be here tomorrow. I still have the sprinter to sleep in and did not have to get a tow so trying so look o the bright side.
