I remember when everything was closed on Sundays. I remember when you would get a swat in school if you didn't listen to your teacher. When all these things changed so did people.

I remember when I wished gas stations were closed on Sunday so I didn't have to work

Amoco had white gas (lead free) was cheaper cause gas had to cost more do to the puting in the lead.

A joint was a place to have a drink, not something rolled in paper

When Pa speed limit for trucks was 50 mph, even on turnpike

When couple states out west, had no speed limit

Route 66 was the best way to Califronia, and a tv program with a couple guys driving a Corvette with the same name

Remember when kids went out to play with their friends and had to be home when the street lights came on. I remember when a movie was $1.50 and a pack of smokes was .52 cents.

I remember this

Saturday morning serials chapters 1 through 15,
Fly paper, penny loafers, Lucky Strike Green.
Flat tops, sock hops, Studebaker, Pepsi Please,
Ahh, do you remember these?

Cigar Bands, on your hand, your daddy's socks rolled down.
Sticks, snow floats and aviator caps with flaps that button down.
Movie stars on Dixie Cup tops, and knickers to your knees,
Ahh, do you remember these?

The Hit Parade, grape Tru-Aid, The Sadie Hawkins Dance,
Pedal pushers, duck tail hair and peggin' your pants.
Howdie-Doodie, Tutti-Frutti, the seam up the back of her hose,
Ahh, do you remember those?

James Dean, he was keen, Sunday movies were taboo,
The Senior Prom, Judy's mom, Rock-n-Roll was new.
Cracker Jack prize, stars in your eyes, as Daddy tore the keys,
Ahh, do you remember these?

The boogey man, lemonade stands, takin' your tonsils out,
Hindenburg, -n- wait your turn, and 4 foul balls you're out.
Cigarette loads, -n- secret codes, -n- savin' lucky stars,
Can you remember back that far?

The boat neck shirts, and fender skirts and crinoline petticoats,
Mum's the word, and a dirty bird and a double root beer float.
Moon hub caps, and loud heel taps, and he's a real gone cat.
Ahh, do you remember that?

Dancin' close, little moron jokes, and cooties in her hair,
Captain Midnight, Ovaltine, and The Whip at the County Fair.
Charles Atlas Course, Roy Roger's Horse, and "only The Shadow knows"
Ahh, do you remember those?

Gable's charm, Frog in your arm, loud mufflers, pitchin' woo,
Going steady, Veronica and Betty, white bucks, and "Blue Suede Shoes"
Knock Knock jokes, and "Who's there?", Dewey, Dewey who?;
Do we, do we remember these? Yes, we do, Ahh do we do we remember these?

Thankyou Stattler bros.

I remember when if ya didn't know where something was ya had to pull into a gas station & use their local map.

I remember when cell phones first came out. Mannnnn were they expensive. And this lady kept calling my number wanting her daughter. It was like $3 to pick up the phone & then .20/minute or something. So getting calls from her wasn't pleasant. Add to this she'd get mad at me. As if it was my fault her daughter wasn't there. Finally I was able to talk to her & explain things. Then she explained she had bad eyes & a slew of problems & couldn't see her phone very well. All of a sudden my expense issues didn't seem so bad & we sorta became friends.

I remember getting pangs in my stomach, the good kind, when I had a long run to somewhere I'd never been before.

I remember driving this box truck w/ AM radio only to NJ or up the Lake Huron coast in Canada. Nowhere to sleep in this thing. That same truck, coming back from NJ one time, hitting ice on a bridge in Pa, realizing if I went over that rail I was gone. Even at 25MPH or whatever I was doing, that was extremely scary.

Prolly shouldn't say this one, but I remember picking up hitchikers just for someone to talk too. I'd never tell em I was going back to Michigan. I'd tell em I was going about 10 miles up the road so if they were boring, I wouldn't be stuck w/ em. This one guy was from Louisiana. I'm fascinated w/ alligators. So I asked him about em. If he had some good stories I would have been willing to take the guy to Alaska. Instead, all he said was "yup, there's some big ones." That's it? ok, you just got a 10 mile ride.

I remember when gas was .89/gallon. I also remember when it was shooting up. Being in Columbus & seeing it at 2.99. I got gas there thinking "wow, this is prolly the last time I'll ever see gas under $3.00 gallon." Glad I was wrong on that one, but that time may still come.

I remember border nazis & also recruiters lying to me.

I also remember good Amish people & some laughs w/ the wait staff at a Skyline Chili in Columbus when I asked if they served Michigan fans. This was back when we were beating them a lot.

I remember being w/ a company that for awhile went mostly Michigan to Toronto & back. Nice little freight lane there. The pay wasn't the best, but I got myself a room outside of Toronto so it was pretty cool getting those runs. Border issues sorta nixed that but I had some pretty cool roomies in Toronto & to this day I consider one of em to be a friend.

Hey, good topic here. A nice lil trip down memory lane.

Remember laying in bed at night in the summer, too hot to sleep and no air conditioning, hearing the frogs and crickets so loud you couldn't sleep and slowly going up and down the AM dial of the clock radio trying to see how many far away places you could tune in?

Remember having to jam wadded up paper under your 8 track tape to keep it playing?

I remember my 66 Dodge Charger with the tops of the doors like a shelf built perfect to fit your arm, and shooting bottle rockets by laying them on the door and tracking down the chrome strip, we were lethal back then!

I remember my Dad bringing home a TV, that was 1952 . Iwas 6 years old. Dad is still with us, will be 90 in July. My wife and I bought a new 67 Beetle, 58 bucks a month and gas on base in Pensacola fl, was 25cents a gallon. The beetle was 1660.00 list price on the window sticker, things have changed. A GTO then was around 2800, I couldn't afford it. Ice cream cones with 3 scoops was 25 cents off base. Where did America go?? I will be 64 in April, and I love expediting, wish I had found this in the 80s............Sky

I remember when car engines were measured in cubic inches, not litres. Like 427 ci, 440 ci 455 ci,429 ci, oh yes and the mighty 426 hemi ci. Those were the good old days when a guy would not want anything less than 400 ci under the hood of his car.

Remember when your mom could go shoping on less than 100 for two weeks? I remember back in 1995 you could fill your FL 70 up for $110.00.

When you all get a chance, this is a fun read when u can go back in time in expediting when many of us have no clue what went on before and I'm in that boat.:D

Seems many of us shared the Roberts experience ....

My first unit with them was C336 ... a 1985 Ford F-350 with a 12' box on it. It had the 6,9 liter diesel that was a poor excuse for an engine and smoked like a locomotive

My brother sent me a couple of pictures of my Peterbilt and the Chevy, (Izuzu)

Clink was optional? Having the Clink put you ahead of those without.
You were a homebody and foreign power would go ahead of you.
Home on Fri., the only one there, by Mon. morning you were 6th in line?
DH to Chicago on Mon. morning in order to get out, otherwise sit at home in MI till Wed.
Clink message set off your pager (most of the time)
Phone rooms
Layovers given by phone - "from planning"
Needed permission to vary from planned layover.
Having another driver call place you out of service by simply calling in (happened to me twice)
Dodge vans were common and very nice driving vans. The 318 was quiet and smooth.
Sprinters were guys running to the phone room when they heard their name paged at the truck stop.
Kill switches on the clink so you could get home without constant run offers. Turn down 3 in a row and you were out of service.
