I remember Joe Roman .com was the place for people to post about Expediting.

I remember when Bobbi Bobbit was the only person in Contractor Relations at Roberts Express and she did a great job. Now they have a whole department doing the job she did.

I remember when you could roll into Detroit and park at the Denny's on fourteen mile road being number 30 and still get a load that day.

I remember when you could flag that you perfered loads over 300 miles.

I remember when the Flying J would take Comdata and everyone parked at the hook in Perrysburg, Ohio.

I remember when the planning department told you where you had to layover at or go home.

I remember my 1st truck number at Roberts Express was C1847 we didn't have driver numbers.

I remember when there was no VRU at FedEx Custom Critical.

I remember when Dan S. sold trucks out in Brimfield, Ohio for Freightliner of Knoxville.

The list goes on. Does anyone remember Bill Yost at Roberts Express?

I remember Lawrence, Jeff Jensen and Ralph Schwab coming to my office in Indy to sign on with Roberts Express. What was I thinking? I refered to them as "The three amigos" after that.

I am math challenged also, I gotta use the darn tip calculator on my cell phone to figure out the tip

Thats an easy one for us mathematically challenged ppl Dakota;
Double the tax then deduct or add based on your service, it seems to work well for me and the waitress.:D

I remember when,
Shop rates where affordable.
ppl changed or fixed their own flats, services etc etc.
We never dreamed of paying for TV or water like we do now.

when Dodge Vans were plentiful.
Every truck stop had Phone Rooms
Clinks were optional with Roberts
You could call planning and change your layover preference
When Roberts paid Per Diem for layovers
When we were so busy you installed a kill switch on the clink to you could get home
You were called by the same dispatcher every time you were offered a run at home
You could stop in and chat with the dispatchers without having an appointment or a body cavity search
You could put on a "gutted out" conversion van with Roberts with all the windows etc.

I forgot one
When there was no orientation. I called Jeff, he authorized, I drove the Van to Pontiac, put on my own signs, Clink installed in Canton and two hours in a trailer at Roberts for clink instruction.
No classroom etc. Got a run the next day - Jonesville Mi - Newark DE - HazMat paid over 680.00 for 584 loaded miles. This was 1989. Loaded 12 hours later enroute to Wndsor.
I also remember when Roberts would Pay for a motel room instead of detention time or perhaps it was eithor/or - memory is goingggggg fast. I cannot take another pin/password without getting rid of one. Whatever spot in my brain holds pins/passwords is full up

Yep, I remember Bill Yost.
And if you turned down 2 loads in a row you were put out of service - until an hour later they called you and said "We NEED your truck!"
And if you didn't take the single layover "assignment" and went somewhere else, you weren't "authorized", and the only way you'd get a load was if they dispatched everything else and you were the only truck available. Everyone who came into that express center went "above" you, you stayed at the bottom.
If you went out of service - for any reason - you lost your standing and went to the bottom of the heap, had to start all over.

Use to fill my car up, buy a carton of cigarettes, an eight pack (yes an eight pack) of my favorite beverage, go to the local establishment for $3.00 and all you could drink. stop and grab a burger and fries. And still have money left from a twenty dollar bill.
