Murray, when are you taking on rigs and straights?

We should. But we'll probably be at least a year before even considering it. I would want a brick and mortar, a dedicated safety manager (for all trucks), a dedicated "over truck" dispatcher & I'd prefer to take on agency for one of the "biggies" first.
We get calls every other month from the nationwide big shots looking for more agents. But no one should EVER jump into that without studying with another agency. There's too much at risk to invest heavily before "getting it" and having the plan in place.
Just one Alabama boy's opinion. :)

But we would probably do a load of straights before any semis.
Well actually one, my BIL drives semi in Indy.

Picked up Thursday in Dayton at a wrecking yard from a st8 truck out o Chicago that ran off the road and did the fish out of water flip flop , wrecked the whole front end and tore the box off the frame it was chained together when I saw it, I was gonna take a picture but I didn't want to embarrass the driver , who fell asleep after only a 5 hr drive (so he said) it was messy! Rescue loads are never fun. Did the remainder to Columbus and then had to sit and wait while they inspected every single piece , I bet I'm gonna be waiting for my extra money on this one!!

I hope you guys realize rates should also be dropping........the FSC at a $3.00 national average should be around .12 CV flat rate of .80 + .12 = .92 a mile...

When four of Santa's elves got sick, the trainee elves did not produce toys as fast as the regular ones, and Santa began to feel the Pre-Christmas pressure.
Then Mrs. Claus told Santa her Mother was coming to visit, which stressed Santa even more.
When he went to harness the reindeer, he found that three of them were about to give birth and two others had jumped the fence and were out, Heaven knows where.
Then when he began to load the sleigh, one of the floorboards cracked, the toy bag fell to the ground and all the toys were scattered.
Frustrated, Santa went in the house for a cup of apple cider and a shot of rum. When he went to the cupboard, he discovered the elves had drunk all the cider and hidden the liquor. In his frustration, he accidentally dropped the cider jug, and it broke into hundreds of little glass pieces all over the kitchen floor.
He went to get the broom and found the mice had eaten all the straw off the end of the broom.
Just then the doorbell rang, and an irritated Santa marched to the door, yanked it open, and there stood a little angel with a great big Christmas tree.
The angel said very cheerfully, 'Merry Christmas, Santa. Isn't this a lovely day? I have a beautiful tree for you. Where would you like me to stick it?
And thus began the tradition of the little angel on top of the Christmas tree.
Not very many people know this.:p

I can't wait for Jan 02/15.....I am excited about this biz again....to get running for a new carrier where I WILL more like a real independent operator making MY business decisions. Running for MY agreed to rate...in a cooperative setting where both carrier and operator can profit and give customers the best service possible....! :)

If you're not running under a flat rate, then I would think you should be able to set your own standards, as it relates to how much you can run for. I cannot run for 1.75, then 1.35, as it rarely comes out in the contractors favor, unless the volume is high. Then when you say 'no' to a lowball offer, you're chastised or punished for it.

Now you understand what many of us were talking about when the cheerleaders were shouting from the rooftops that they trusted their company, and weren't asking what the loads paid. That's foolish business, IMO. Trust, but VERIFY... and that's with any business partner.

When a bidder calls and asks..."How much do you need to run this load?" and I tell them and then they ignore me and bid some wild "UNcompetitve" price...and then proceed to sit another 2 days till the next offer...well...after John....they should be listening to me and MY instructions....IMO

some have to ask themselves...am I staying because of the benefits and perks and freebees? I struggled with that issue for months....until I realized just how "controlled and under a safety net" I had become used to.... Rant over! Please PM me for more info....Ken aka OVM

The carrier, any carrier, is gonna take care of #1. To themselves, they are #1. To us we are #1. It is up to each of us to run our business as we see fit. Hopefully this coincides with the carrier that is doing the same. When it doesn't, the word "NO" becomes part of the process. When a carrier, any carrier, punishes or chastises us the business partner for saying "NO", I say send me a w2 instead of a 1099.
