ole doc ben carson has come out saying he would abolish medicare, medicaid, etc.
while this is a popular notion among the conservatives, it is a vote killer for a lot of people, will this stop him cold even before the first primary is done?

He did not say that and clarified it on Fox News this morning
Just to expand - not only did he NOT say that, but "abolishing medicare and medicaid" is NOT "a popular notion among conservatives". His proposal appears to offer future generations of Americans a choice between the existing medicare / medicaid programs and health savings accounts. They could sign up for one or the other.

we will have to elect him, then after that, we can see what he will really do... you know when politicians are running for office (and yes he is a politician since he is in politics and running for election), they will say anything, and then after they are elected, you see who they really are...whatever he or any politician says can be taken with a grain of salt, as far as I am concerned, its like they say, if you see their lips moving, then they are lying...and it is funny when they can't keep their lies straight.

It's not true - just another outright lie from Politico.

No, Ben Carson Didn't Lie About West Point. It's Another Media Hit Job.

The only "outright lie" is on Carson, who said more than once that he "was offered a full scholarship to West Point", which is not true. He was encouraged to apply, [probably by General Westmoreland, as he says], but he was never offered a scholarship.
Politico has the integrity to straighten it out when they get it wrong, which is more than you can say for the right wing sites and talking heads, who simply ignore what is proven wrong.

When I was a kid and got the highest PSAT score in the county; I got a letter from my congressman offering to sponsor me to attend West Point. I have said on numerous occasions that I was offered the opportunity to attend West Point, and decided against it. It sounds like something similar happened to Ben Carson, except it might have been General Westmoreland making the offer. So if Carson had applied with a sponsorship from Westmoreland, he'd have been in West Point. There are no scholarships to West Point, it is a free ride for everyone, and requires 4 years service in the military after the Academy. I can see how someone that was poor and thinking about going to college might think of it as a full scholarship. I think it is a matter of poor semantics on Ben's part and political posturing by the media. BTW, I don't like Ben Carson.

So you know that Westmoreland or other military personel didn't tell him 'we can get you in to West Point', essentially offering him a scholarship?

No politico simply adjusted there hesdline. They still state they stand 100% behind the original story. They actually lied stating his campaign admitted it was a lie which is not what they did.

I do think Carson is guilty of exageration.

Probably mixed up the banquets.
If by "the banquets" you mean reality, I'd say you're right.

“Two soldiers who had won the Congressional Medal of Honor in Viet Nam were present. More exciting to me, General William Westmoreland (very prominent in the Viet Nam war) attended with an impressive entourage.”

Carson wrote that his ROTC instructor — identified as Sgt. Hunt — introduced him to Westmoreland “and I and my girlfriend, Morgan Fairchild, had dinner with him and the Congressional Medal winners.”
