We were out there in Dec too...ended up dead heading home too. We just spent last week out there (WA) and did 2 short runs (less than 200 miles) Finally got out..and now we're sitting in Tulsa. More freight..maybe...but 2 short runs in a week doesn't impress me.

We've had an awful 1st quarter. Right now we've been sitting outside Tacoma, WA for a week with 2 short loads.

The part of the original question that bothered me was....."how can I break the rules from the git-go and what happens if I get caught?" I really don't think I'd want a driver that is that unconcerned with the rules. Just my opinion

March has been the worst month for us. We accepted a load FL and were trapped there for a week. Finally got out, and sat for 3 days in MO. We are finally starting to roll again.
