You folks must learn to comprehend what you read...Here's what Lawrence said: "On the Expo topic – if you come to the and say it is not the best one yet – Terry O will buy you lunch" In that it's highly unlikely that anyone in attendance at Expo 2006 can honestly say this is not the best...

    Oil drain plugs

I share Greg's paranoia about the lever action drain plug. I had one on one of my diesel fords and removed it shortly after I drove thru a mess of gator tails on the interstate. I had this fear that I would rip that thing off and leave 11 qts of oil down the highway. I didn't want the EPA or...

    Eleven Bucks an Hour

When I lived in the Wash DC burbs in the early '80's, all manor of ploys were attempted in order to defeat the HOV lane regulations. One of these gimmicks was employed by local trucking companies who hired ridealongs. It didn't last long as they soon restricted commercial vehicles, less...

    Economy Slowdown

No Problem: It seems you support my opinion that freight is not necessarily down but that the freight market is saturated with trucking companies and trucks, many of whom are willing to underbid the established carriers to capture a new customer. I would suggest that ABlair's 50% reduction...

    Economy Slowdown

Twenty years ago, when Roberts Express was the only nationwide, door-to-door, exclusive use, time critical expedited freight carrier, there was more fright for their trucks than we could handle. As the years went by, the quantity of freight increased as the Just-in-time shipper/consignees...

When a Panther Recruiter says $140,000 a year what

RE: When a Panther Recruiter says $140,000 a year mileater Any recruiter from a reputable carrier can give you good figures on E-Truck average earnings, but there are no recruiters that can give you a good guesstimate of your net earnings. Neither can any EO tractor driving members without...

    Who Dat?

I agree with Prof, the colormatched Qualcomm antenna looks sharp on the right vehicle; however, anyone contemplating similar action should check with the carrier before painting the dome. A painted or modified dome owned or leased by the carrier might not be accepted, upon return of the unit...

    oil

This Should explain it all... A lot of folks can't understand how we came to have an oil shortage here in our country. ~~~ Well, there's a very simple answer. ~~~ Nobody bothered to check the oil. ~~~ We just didn't know we were getting low. ~~~ The reason for that is...

DOT ROAD CHECK & CARGO VANS

This happened to me several years ago in Illinois on I64 just east of St Louis. After trooper pulled me over he said "We stopped you just because it's Roberts Express' turn today" After a permit, license, reg BOL, freight securement check I was on my way. I think it was a training session for...

    Memorial Day

Thanks Dave. Here's an explanation for all to read. La Societe des Quarante Hommes at Huit Chevaux is an independent fraternal organization of U. S. veterans, more commonly known as the Forty & Eight. The Forty & Eight was formed in 1920 by American Legionnaires as an honor society and from...

    60 or 40

These days of high fuel costs, I suspect most owners would not take a chance with an unknown driver and pay the fuel bill. The owner won't know how long you'll idle, how often you'll go home on his fuel or how far you'll deadhead for personal reasons, and worst case, whether or not you'll sell...

Who should pay for Qualcomm and Workman Comp?

Like everything else in this biz, it's optional. Whatever you agree with is what it is. Like Leo above, I think the owner should pay all vehicle expenses, less fuel, and that includes the qualcomm. You shouldn't have to pay that, unless you want to.

    FUEL SAVINGS

Five years ago, the typical fuel consumer would have thought that buying a fuel contract at $1.00 would have been foolhardy; five years from now, a $3.00 contract bought today would have been a great investment.

Earl: Your $40,000 steady job (with benefits?), home every nite/weekend would be tough to beat in expedite trucking. You've got steady work which is rare to find in expedite. I think you should go with the gut feeling you have and stick with the 'bird in the hand'
