i'm a newbi.not out on the road as of yet.after reading the fdcc post, how does anybody except people to want to drive expedited freight.sitting for 30+ hours at a time waiting for a reload.man,i hope you get a reload worth writting home about.i'm talking to fedcc now.but after reading that post i don't know.i'm want to be a solo.if a o/o driving his own truck/van can't make money, how does the solo working for a o/o make money?i make about $18 an hour working a full time job 45 hrs a week.i drive local.mon -fri job.5am -2;30 pm .i drive str trk 28' box 6 sp hino 1992, 30,000 gvw.great truck.i work 3 miles from wash,dc.but live 25 mile south of wash dc in maryland.5 blocks from the beach, board walk, women, good times.why do i want to drive otr you might ask.i love the open road.i have talked to a lot of recruiters ,that said i can make a alot of money.i want to buy my own truck.that way i can pretty much do what i want, and not have a o/o breathing down my neck.yes i know ,take what a recruiter says with a grain of salt.well its been 2 yrs sence i looked into this type of work(expediting).i haven't jumped in with both feet yet.i've done alot of reading on here(oe pages).some post say (i make alot of money)others (where's the money, loads).well i am thinking about working for diff part of fed ex.home deliverly or ground.either way i have to buy a truck.but home every night.the money is'nt bad,but one draw back to both.if you have to have a day off for something you have to find someone to drive for you.who do you trust for that.wash,dc area not to good to drive in.well i thought i would add my 2 cents in.

Your $40,000 steady job (with benefits?), home every nite/weekend would be tough to beat in expedite trucking. You've got steady work which is rare to find in expedite. I think you should go with the gut feeling you have and stick with the 'bird in the hand'

Ditto what Terry said! I have said it before and will again Expedite is ideal for the semi-retired same household types. You have to be really business savy to make it as an single or split team and if you are that savy you would realize that you would make alot better living doing somthing else. I do not want to discourage anyone from doing expedite if it is a good fit for them however it is not for everyone. You must be of better than average patience and learn freight zones add a pinch of luck and you might make it. There is a trade off for big $ in that you and someone committed to being together can make a sustainable living but can allso enjoy all the sights this country has to offer...For us it was worth it but if Cynthia left me tommorrow I would put my big butt right back into a big truck because I know what kinda of revenue I can turn. I will probably take a lashing for this but I call it as I see it AND if you can make a living and be in your own bed everynight that's a no brainer.

Agree with the above. Same household teams are usually the most profitable. Singles can make money, but they can't be over financed, be with a single oriented company, and have to run a pretty tight ship.

I am an o/o who lives on the east coast and operates as a single with FXCC and I make money. That said, I have to agree with everyone else.
Why would you give up a good thing like you have for the expediting life style?Think long and hard before you do this. The grass is not always greener and recruiters are nothing more than salesmen....

Better to keep what you have than risk everything and end up with nothing. Most people who fail at this business would fail in any business they try, thats not to say they are bad people, only that maybe they are not so good at being their own boss. Most people don't start out at the top of the money list, and dont have the cash reserve to hold them over till they learn the ropes. If you must be home every weekend or just cant stand to be away from those you love then this is not the work for you. This is a different lifestyle than most people are used to. Best of luck on your choice.
