CDL required for <10K GVW Van?

The medical card goes hand-in-hand with the CDL and the driver bearing it, not the vehicle he is driving. Yes, a CDL WITH hazmat endorsement is required to haul HM. No special license is needed for any vehicle 26000 GVW or below, unless hauling HM. However, carrier contract requirements may...

    Tandem Axles or NOT?????????

If you're going to go with a class 8 truck, I wouldn't even bother with it if it didn't at least have the "optional" third axle. You'll be lucky to haul more than 8500 if you don't. That third axle is also nice when you're running in the snow, or even heavy rain. More stability. Just drop it.

would this be a good van?

Even without the ready made sliding door, it could be done. In a cutaway cube, the back wall of the cab IS the front wall of the box. Even if it had a door, I would open it up as much as possible. You would want to make sure to leave yourself 12' and maybe an inch or two, just to be on the...

There are quite a few that advertise on here. The word "good" may be subjective though. :) Is there a particular region you want help in?

    Carriers' view on van windows

Just remember this: The more window, the harder to insulate. The more window, the harder to secure. Covered up or not, that window can be broken and the van then compromised.

    the cargo van expediter

I have seen loads offered at higher than 70mph. Long ones too. Those are usually conjured by a shipper's need time and an ignorant sales worm. Your carrier decides if they want to guarantee that kind of nonsense or not. Now, at a 45 mph average, I have no problem offering a 1000 miler to a...

    the cargo van expediter

Unless you run for a carrier that has 10 vans sitting in every major city in America, this is not the case. Having a van sitting there waiting for a possible customer does no good to the carrier. I don't usually book a load (unless I have authority to broker it) without having a vehicle...

    Which Straight Truck?

The ones that you would normally see pulling a 53 are the class 8 trucks. (I do see an occasional FL-70 pulling a trailer around town though.) You are right on the T800. With Frtl it the Century, Cascadia, XL classic and such. I have a Freightliner FLD w/ a 22ft box, 4000 lbs liftgate and a...
