Where is the Freight?

Near the start of our expedite career I started tracking the location of where we picked up and delivered loads.   As time has progressed it has became very easy to see where the majority of our freight is located.

The value of the map over the years had grown by leaps and bounds.   Each pin has the date and the name of the consignee and a reference number.   When a load is offered to us we can quickly look at the map and see what the freight looked like to get out of that area.

The map shows that often we take freight to a location but have to dead head back out.   That information is valuable for when we accept a load that we know ahead of time that there is a great possibility we will have excessive dead head out.

The map has also been used to map the actual location of the customer’s driveway and not the address.   We have often found the customer gives the address of the office not the entrance to the dock that can be located on another road behind the building.

I also have informational pins of where friends live in the country, where there is great truck parking, and other such information.

When I look at the map I see we have what appears to be a lot of pins in North Dakota.   When clicking on the pin and seeing the customers name and date I was reminded of when we delivered girl scout cookies to the troop leaders houses. That sure brought back some funny memories.

The map is also used to look at routes across the country and it is easy to change the route and see how this change affects the miles.   The map is also used for locals to give a quick overview of how to get in and out of a location.   The GPS is also used for all routings.

The map is also fun to look at to see different areas we have been to and areas that have a lot of concentrated freight.   The detail of this map is only good for a certain company, a certain truck size, a certain truck type, and us with certain qualifications.
