What a year for Truck Shows!

We have really enjoyed this year and the shows have proven to be very educational.   We have learned a lot about public speaking,  how to plan workshops for truck shows,  and  how much detail has to go into organizing a walk at the big shows.

We started working on our first walk at the Mid America Truck Show in January of this year.   We have had a conference call every Friday all year long planning one walk after another.   As soon as we are through one at a truck show we move on to the next one.   We have been on all different types of radio shows, some interviews  went really well. Some I have stumbled through.   With each radio show I gain a little more experience and I hope a little more wisdom.   I was almost physically sick before the first interview and now I am to the point I just have the mild shakes.   I have a secret security blanket I use on all of the radio shows that has served me well and has gotten me out of a couple jams.

This year we have also been doing Expedite Workshops around the country.   Expediters Online hosts the workshops and we have been asked to speak at these.   The attendees seem to enjoy talking and listening to drivers who are doing the job they are interested in.    We feel as if a new person cannot do enough research before they jump into this way of life.   Trucking is a huge commitment and if they do not like being out on the road it will become very miserable.   Expediting is not a steady income and we had to learn to manage our business to account for these fluxes.   Our income can and will vary several thousand dollars each week.   If you would like to learn more about the workshops check out this site: http://www.expeditersonline.com/sub/workshops/

In March of this year we attended  the Mid America Truck show, our largest truck show this year, in Louisville. Next came the Las Vegas truck show which is the Great West Truck Show, then came the Expedite Expo. Last but not least was the show in Dallas, The Great American Truck Show.    Our favorite by far is the Expedite Expo in July in Wilmington, OH.   This show has it all!   We see friends in the industry we only see once a year, we learn at workshops geared towards expediters, and we get to see great products.

It will be sad when we complete the next workshop as we will be back to hauling freight and trying to get through winter and see as little snow and ice as possible.
