HazMat Placards

Bob decided not to have any placard holders mounted on the box or on our bumper.   This turned out to be a wise decision on his part when FedEx Custom Critical decided we needed large signs.   A HazMat placard cannot be within 3” of a letter and we would have had to move all of our placard holders.

What Bob did was take an idea that a repair shop had for front placards and add to the thought.   Bob had small receivers added to the sides and back of the truck to hold our placards holders. We carry two full sets of placards one for Explosives and one for Chemicals.

When we receive a HazMat load Bob puts the correct placard holders on the truck and when we have the HazMat loaded he flips the signs to the correct signage.

There are a couple reasons for this and the number one being the signs create drag on our aerodynamics and that decreases our fuel mileage.   The other reason is the truck looks smoother without the placard holders.

We have been using this system since the first day with the truck and Bob has become very fast about getting them installed.   We learned the hard way that when using our lift gate that we do not put the placard holders on the truck till we are done using the lift gate.
