Happy Halloween
I did a little research and found that Halloween became a version of what it is today in the 1930’s which included the costumes and the famous saying “Trick or Treatâ€. Halloween has become big business with retailers and takes up almost as much room as the Christmas decorations do.
I enjoy the old-fashioned Halloween with homemade costumes, homemade decorations and carved pumpkins. The blow up ornaments in the yard does not interest me. I remember going to houses as a child and also taking my girls trick or treating and enjoying the custom decorations. I enjoyed the houses that were very elaborate with the homeowners dressing up and decorating their porches. The imagination surrounding Halloween is spectacular.
Before we went into trucking, I enjoyed the Halloween parties and making great dishes to take to parties. I must admit my thoughts of what was fun on Halloween and what constituted a neat and interesting dish had others saying “Grossâ€. I had a few favorites one as a kitty litter cake and I spent quiet a bit of time making this realistic! I used a (clean) pooper-scooper as the serving spoon. Another fun item was to buy a mask and freeze water in it. The face that I did not color was perfect in punch bobbing around and keeping the punch cool. I had many others I enjoyed taking, some were hits and some no one was brave enough to try.
I did not care to dress up as I am lacking in imagination and I have a hard time purchasing costumes, as they looked to me as silly and fake. I was also able to help on a few spook houses and really enjoyed that. There are many ideas on making spooky items for a spook house. One I saw last year I really enjoyed that was a wall painted black with colored polka dots. When we walked into this room it was dark, the wall was illuminated, and I thought this is an odd room. Then two people moved who were dressed in black with polka dots on their clothing. It was awesome!
I hope everyone is able to enjoy seeing the decorations this year and to smile when they see some of the cute witches floating in the air!
