Happy Halloween

I did a little research and found that Halloween became a version of what it is today in the 1930’s which included the costumes and the famous saying “Trick or Treat”. Halloween has become big business with retailers and takes up almost as much room as the Christmas decorations do.

I enjoy the old-fashioned Halloween with homemade costumes, homemade decorations and carved pumpkins.   The blow up ornaments in the yard does not interest me.   I remember going to houses as a child and also taking my girls trick or treating and enjoying the custom decorations.   I enjoyed the houses that were very elaborate with the homeowners dressing up and decorating their porches.    The imagination surrounding Halloween is spectacular.

Before we went into trucking, I enjoyed the Halloween parties and making great dishes to take to parties.   I must admit my thoughts of what was fun on Halloween and what constituted a neat and interesting dish had others saying “Gross”.   I had a few favorites one as a kitty litter cake and I spent quiet a bit of time making this realistic!   I used a (clean) pooper-scooper as the serving spoon.   Another fun item was to buy a mask and freeze water in it.   The face that I did not color was perfect in punch bobbing around and keeping the punch cool.   I had many others I enjoyed taking, some were hits and some no one was brave enough to try.

I did not care to dress up as I am lacking in imagination and I have a hard time purchasing costumes, as they looked to me as silly and fake.   I was also able to help on a few spook houses and really enjoyed that.   There are many ideas on making spooky items for a spook house.   One I saw last year I really enjoyed that was a wall painted black with colored polka dots.   When we walked into this room it was dark, the wall was illuminated, and I thought this is an odd room.   Then two people moved who were dressed in black with polka dots on their clothing.   It was awesome!

I hope everyone is able to enjoy seeing the decorations this year and to smile when they see some of the cute witches floating in the air!
