Anticipation of a SHOWER!
The estimated wait time is usually very inaccurate or I sometimes think it means per driver waiting.
We have been running back to back loads all calling for dual driver protective service. We were really struggling trying to fit in a shower when we changed drivers. Finally the long awaited shower was going to become a reality.
We were going to fuel during a driver change in Arizona and we had the time for each of us to get a shower. I gathered up my shower stuff and while Bob parked the truck I headed inside. Bob would stay with the truck in the front seat while I showered and then we would switch places while he showered. I could not wait to get in the shower and feel the water.
I walked in carrying my shower bag looking for the shower kiosk and glanced up at the shower monitor and that is when my heart dropped. For those of you who do not know how this works I will explain. When a driver uses the reward card when getting fuel as long as we get over 50 gallons we get a free shower. The shower credit is stored on our rewards card for five days before expiring. We swipe the card and one shower is deducted and then we look for the shower monitor. These for some unknown reason are usually not near each other.
I saw the shower monitor on the way to get my shower ticket and saw the list of drivers waiting. I took one look at this list and turned around and headed back to the truck. We could not sit long enough for one of us to take a shower much less both of us. What a huge disappointment as we drove off thinking about using our wet ones once again to get the road grime off. This usually does not happen at the truck stop we choose which is the TA/Petro’s.
When we are finally able to slow down for a bit and not be
under a DDPS load we are both looking forward to a long leisurely shower as
long as there is not a line waiting.
