Would you run for a company if they had this?

They call it business...nothing personal...

BUT when you are the one sitting and you see others moving,
it sure can get personal real quick...

I've loaded with a straight getting a CV load when there were 3 other CV's back in the lot....You know it happens you just don't like to see it up close and personal...

That might be one of the times when the consignee requires dock high at the other end or some other reason why the truck was ordered instead of a van.

Nope...I even asked the driver where they were going....same product ..different assembly plant...that takes CV's..

The real problem there was about 8 straights piling up...and they had to move them out...without paying to DH them out.

It is a perfect legit business move...but it hurts none the less..when you think It can happen and does happen to me...

BTW there is only about a .19 difference between sprinter rate and straights...so the carrier actually saves a penny it doesn't cost them anything to move a truck....on a move by giving them a sprinter load...

OVM I seen a sprinter on E-bay for 1500.00 but it needs motor work.

Yea I saw that too. But has anyone noticed the amount of low mileage sprinters hitting the market, like a 2005 with 25k on it or the 2004 with 36k - all really high priced.

Dodge dealer in Corsicana TX has a 2003 with about 60K for asking 20 thou...it was the part pick-up and shuttle van.

your looking at least 12-14,000 for a factory motor...Never would I put in a rebuild..not in a sprinter.

Not disagreeing in theory. Just pointing out that sometimes there's a reason other than moving trucks.

I understand Leo...dock high request..or consignee doesn't want to deal with a van...forklift can't get out in snow zones...all kinds of other reasons.

What? I would trust a rebuild. But I would either do the work myself or buy a MB rebuild, not a Jasper motor rebuild.

So I go back to my other post - what about box van that haul more than sprinters?

I look at it this way....a CV is say 8 feet 48" tall...a customer wants more space ? Then they should pay for it. Simple logic.

So simple logic would put the box van that has space for 4 skids (8 stacked) and 3000lbs capacity get a lot more than those spoiled sprinter owners?

Spoiled? *L* good one...:D

Yes..in a perfect world...why should they not?

A customer want to fill a certain size truck..the price SHOULD reflect the cost of operating that size....

A customer needs 30 feet PAYS for 30 feet..so a tractor shows up....there is 23 feet left over...should the customer fill it?

BUT if a customer was told that they would be paying for 53' then yes they could fill it. because they paid for it.

I have so many cubic feet available for the load...the customer fills them cubic feet...IF they want more space...then they pay...

So let me get this straight.

A sprinter owner gets only a "sprinter rate" only when it can't go on a van?

Right?

SO the customer says "I want a sprinter" and I come there with my 16 foot box van - will they cry to the company that I'm not a sprinter?

No..can't see that..they want the ability to have the space IF they have more product then expected...nothing worse for a shipper to have 3-4 skids come off production line and they only ordered a C/V..now they have to order a second van...costs even more...

OK so lets put some numbers to this idea.

If a cargo van is getting say 80 cents a mile for two skids, what should a sprinter get for three?

How about the box van, now I got space for four, how much more than a sprinter?

At E-1 we get $1.00 per mile+FSC

don't forget the 48" and over..you might only have 1 skid.

The balance of your question comes down to.
What do YOU think you are worth? and
How much is a carrier going to pay you?...

Call it fair market value lets say...

The missing information is...HOW much is a carrier really charging for your space?

Gotta go...got a load.

I would agree that if the load is over 48 inchs tall they should pay more. If the load won't fit on a van and they don't want to pay for a c-unit then the customer should pay a little more than a van rate.

the rates dont sound bad, deductions a little to high. the real ? is what is this really all about other than wondering if people would run for these rates. i can see an established co. being able to get the rates or one with their own auth., but a new startup i think would have a hard time unless it had contracts or dedicated customers. we all know the bid board rates. so what gives dave? really good scenario.

Okay lets say Panther or FedEx Custom Critical offered these rates. Would run these rates at Panther or FedEx Custom Critical?
