Will you Step up?

That is true but most of the work done in research non-profits don't end up making people rich, unlike the united way or some of the funding organizations where high salaries are justified by the corporate style work being done.

Beside all of that, these research non-profits are audited a lot to prevent this very thing from happening.

My point is this, TJ makes a claim that some of these people he calls truckers are a**es for not donating to what he considers a worthy cause. But I think he is wrong, I think that if there is a direct benefit to everyone, giving happens more often than not and especially if it is legitimate or made legitimate through the proper steps. In the case of my example, I used the idea that there is a group who has formed a non-profit for the benefit to all that has an idea to reduce fuel consumption and emissions.

And who's to say TJ isn't pocketing the money himself? Could be he doesn't even know this woman, and is using this tragedy to make a few bux. Wouldn't be the first time.

People don't want to be "shamed" into giving. The stronger the demand, the more I bulk. If I'm feeling the "heart tug" to give to a person or a cause, then I'll give. If not, no one's purse is more tightly closed than mine.

As a group, I believe that truck drivers are some of the most giving people that you would ever know, but that being said, they're also worn out from the constant begging and ridiculous pleas and stories that they hear every day out here on the road.

DD and I have talked about this a lot over the years and we always come back to the "heart tug" thing I mentioned above. If your gut tells you to give, go ahead, if not, then don't.

And the way he came across in his posts,I think there is a very good chance that this is what is happening.

It is not that can't, but it is if you want to.

It is what is called charity overload, when too many charities ask and then you throw in the quick buck artist on top of that.

The point is that people get tired of being asked, a common problem for a lot of charities to face, and when someone like TJ comes along and acts as it is a duty or else, it turns off people from giving at all. In his case it is not legitimate, a vacation is not charity for a family.

The same happens when you are driving down a road in a city, you have a the guy standing on the corner of a street who steps up to ask for money for his church, but if you already gave to the guy at the other light, you may start to feel as a target so the solution is that you don't give at all when asked.

I may not explain it well but for many charities and non-profits it is a problem.

Let me ask you this one, would you give $10 or even $100 to a legal non-profit research that is trying to find a way to get lower fuel consumption and lower emissions for every class 7/8 truck out on the road today? Isn't it a worthy cause? By forming a non-profit, this takes the "I will get rich off of this idea" attitude out of the equation altogether and allow an open collaboration with universities and other research places of the companies because of the lack of the threat of competition. Would you?

If you answered my question forgive me...you said "LEGALLY stop me from donating"

"possible legal issues that prevent legitimate charities from receiving funds from people who are turned off by this style of a charade."

I'm not a moderator here, I don't even play one on tv...however, I've observed some of your posts and I'm beginning to wonder just what your game is.

First, I take it from this post that the owner of this site does not know you nor are you a paying advertiser......

Maybe you folks need to know exactly who I am.. not because I'm better than anyone ... but because I refuse to just sit around and do nothing.

My name is TJ Graff .. I own GoTruckStop.com. I'm not looking for praise ... but I was looking for my fellow drivers to help.
Now, I wouldn't normally have given you the time of day but something just didn't ring true here and judging from everyone else's reaction to you, I'd say I'm not alone in those observations.

I won't go into just how obnoxious you were in soliciting funds on the thread I've just quoted, that's evident to all.

My focus is on your FREE ADVERTISING CAMPAIGN.......

HERE.....Dated 1/27/09....

Lets see, they claim to be an E-Bay power seller. I went to the ALK website to see if they are an Authorized Re-seller ... NOPE!!

And they are offering a price that is $25 more than a well known on-line store for the trucking industry.

Here's where I found a great deal ...

GoTruckStop
AND HERE.....Dated 1/30/09.......Now this one I find especially astounding AND amusing as you give YOURSELF a thumbs up and even include a quote from an email FROM THE COMPANY THAT YOU OWN!!! NICE TOUCH!!!

Re: GPS for truck routes

I had ordered my PC Miler Navigator 430 the other day from GoTruckStop.

Today, I received this e-mail from them.

I was surprised to get it, for sometimes in today's world the word "customer service" really means "no customer service".

Great job GoTruckStop ... and I really mean it.:cool:

So it looks like I should be getting my Navigator 430 in just a few days.

I wanted to give you an update as of today, 1/30/09, regarding your PC Miler Navigator 430 order.

We have already started shipping orders(over 75 units).

I personally spoke with Dan Titus, VP of Sales for ALK (the manufacturer of the PC Miler Navigator 430)today. Product was shipped (over 1200 units) on 1/27/09 via FedEx LTL to our two distribution centers. We are simply awaiting the arrival of those units so that we can ship your order.

I personally thank you for your patience and it should simply be just a few days before you receive your order.

I'm real happy with my PC Miler Navigator so far. But I've only had for a day.

As far as you touting this e-bay seller.

I'm not sure if you are the e-bay seller yourself or not , I got my Navigator from GoTruckStop.com

But I checked them to see if they are carrying the new WorldNav 5100 that you are touting.

And here's what I found ...

Re: heated wiper blades

I mainly run out west, mostly warm weather but when it snow ... man it snows.

A few week ago when I was up in Seattle I ran into a driver that had a set of these. He said it used radiant heat and kept his blade area warm enough to keep the blades from freezing.

Again...2/17/09 on that PC Miler....you're really pushing that thing, must have been a good profit on that unit.

Re: Seller says it's the best Truck GPS

Guys sorry its been so long since I posted.

I wanted to get back to everyone about the PC Miler Nav 430.

I've had it for a few weeks now and honestly ... its pretty good.

It took getting used to it.

But all in all. in my opinion... its pretty good for the $300 is spent at GoTruckStop

The screen is just right. Its fits right where I want it. And the battery charge gives me a full day of use.

So whatever you have heard, mine beens working well
Still on that GPS.....4/23/09...Man you're like a dog on a bone!!!

Re: Gps units

I've had the PC Miler Nav 430 for about 2 months now. I really like it. It took a while to get to learn all the different features.

But now that I have it set up right ... its great !!

Now I see the Garmin Nuvi 465t will be available in about 5 weeks at GoTruckStop.com.

I have a freind that likes my Nav 430 ... I just might sell it to him and get the new Garmin.
And just a few hours later.....Available in a few weeks...Ha!..I'm glad you got your order in early too, would have been kinda tacky had you been late to your own sale!!

Re: Gps units

well, I went and did it ...

I went to GoTruckStop.com and ordered a Garmin 465t !!

My buddy said he wants my Nav 430 when the new one comes in.

Can't wait. They said it should be available in a few weeks.

If the demand is going to be like the Nav 430, glad I got my order in early.

YES.....INDEED, LET'S TRY IT AGAIN.....

You come in here and smooze a little but mostly insult a lot and interject your advertisements in your posts, thinking that no one was smart enough to put two and two together and see what you're doing?

You have the gall to talk down to everyone here but you'll take their money if they've the misfortune to click on your links and order your products?

I cannot tell you just how much I detest a liar and before you tell me that you didn't lie...that you merely didn't mention UP FRONT that you were behind that web site, I will say a lie of OMISSION is a lie none the less.

More than owing the membership here an apology, you owe Lawrence......you free-loaded off of his site while profiting from any sales that you may have generated from here.

I'd like to know what you have to say for yourself.

Thanks Jack,

Everyone, we usually don't discuss actions taken against members, but in this case, you can obviously see.. someone did slip one by us.

Thanks You Diesel Diva for being on the ball, and catching someone who didn't want to pay for advertising.

While the campaign for Jason's Law is a worthy cause, we don't appreciate the rest of Keeshond's actions, therefore, he has been given a vacation.

Thanks,

Jack,I know your intentions were good on the removing of this thread, but now with most of it returned and the way it is now,it makes no sense at all.

What should have happened is that the offending word or post should have been removed and that is all.

The better half put alot of work into exposing this idiot, and now the bulk of her work is reduced to an unreadable mishmash of out of context quotes and posts that make it impossible to follow.

It has now been replaced so folks can read it, tho in a locked form.

We appreciate her efforts, tho perhaps a heads up behind the scenes first would have helped LOL.. now the membership has no doubt why he was banned.

Thanks,

Less drama, and I prefer to deal with things behind the scenes. But it's done, and it's back up, he's gone, we appreciate it, movin on! :)

In the spirit of "movin' on"....if this had taken place behind the scenes, your membership would not have been privy to the complete picture of the man behind the web site that he was touting for sales of various products. Buyer beware, but if I can warn my brother or sister away from a business or individual, I will.

Didn't mean to step on any toes.....

Dale,

Thanks for putting the original thread back up (sans expletives) - I know that Diva put in a significant amount of work to create it - hopefully it will save someone some grief.
